Supervisor Lead Network Operations North
Location: 525 N. Broadway White Plains, NY 10603 /other locations as required
Hours of Work: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (8 work hours/day) or various as required

The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support for all aspects of connectivity between endpoints utilizing MTA’s integrated LAN/WAN network environment.

Level 1

  • Support satellite locations in a timely and effective manner during the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all network related technologies.
  • Work with other IT technical resources to support all network related technical problems and services.
  • Ensure all required system documentation and record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling IT assets are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new connectivity products and technologies.

Level 2

Same as level 1 with the following additional responsibilities:

  • Guide less senior technicians and staff in the performance of their tasks.
  • Evaluate connectivity requests and requirements and recommend effective technological solutions.
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot complex network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.

Level 3

Same as level 2 with the following additional 2 responsibilities:

  • Participate in the evaluation of new products and technologies.
  • Design and engineer solutions and standards to be applied within the section.

Level 4

Same as level 3 with the following additional responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of tasks associated with network technology related projects.
  • Ensure all departmental record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling network assets and call center statistical reporting are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Install and oversee the configuration and troubleshooting of complex network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.

Level 5

Same as level 4 with the following additional responsibilities:

  • Direct the design and engineering of solutions for projects to be implemented within the section.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of tasks and activities in support of network related projects and initiatives
  • Evaluate user requests and requirements and recommend effective technological solutions.


Level 1

  • Basic working knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology.
  • Must be able to move and lift up to 25 lbs. of equipment such as switches, routers, UPS, laptops, firewalls, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Basic knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.

Level 2

Same as level 1 with the following additional qualifications:

  • Ability to provide technical solutions to meet business unit requirements.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Working knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols.

Level 3

Same as level 2 with the following additional qualifications:

  • Ability to design and engineer complex solutions incorporating standards and industry best practice to enhance and expand the functionality of the Corporate Data Network incorporating fault tolerance, resiliency and scalability.
  • Knowledge of implementing Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC).
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols and use of protocol analysis tools for data packet inspection.
  • Ability to provide in-depth technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Knowledge of implementing F5 application load balancing.

Level 4

Same as level 3 with the following additional qualifications:

  • Working knowledge on Cisco IOS-XE, IOS-XR, and NX-OS.
  • Advanced knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Working knowledge on configuring and troubleshooting of F5 application load balancers.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot OSPF routing.
  • Ability to plan activities and provide advanced technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Ability to formulate a plan, define tasks, and coordinate activity required to successfully execute network technology related projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols and use of protocol analysis tools for data packet inspection.
  • Ability to design and engineer complex solutions incorporating standards and industry best practice to enhance and expand the functionality of the Corporate Data Network incorporating fault tolerance, resiliency and scalability.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot BGP routing.

Level 5

Same as level 4 with the following additional qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical solutions to meet business unit requirements.
  • Must demonstrate excellent knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols and use of protocol analysis tools for data packet inspection.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.
  • Strong knowledge in design, configuring, and troubleshooting of OSPF networks.
  • Proven experience working with senior level staff contributing to both short and long term technology related planning strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan activities and provide advanced technical direction to less senior staff members.
  • Understanding of connecting enterprise networks to the cloud.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct the design and engineering complex solutions incorporating standards and industry best practice to enhance and expand the functionality of the Corporate Data Network incorporating fault tolerance, resiliency and scalability.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead formulation of a plan, defining tasks and coordinating activity, required to successfully execute network technology related projects.
  • Understanding of VRF implementations.
  • Must demonstrate excellent knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
  • Knowledge of implementing redundant Internet connections by multi-homing to two ISPs.

  • Must demonstrate highly developed knowledge of current industry standard IT technologies and market trends.
  • Strong knowledge in design, configuring, and troubleshooting of BGP networks.

Level 1

  • Must possess a basic knowledge, familiarity and experience with maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 1 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.

Level 2

  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years’ experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 5 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.

Level 3

  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 7 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.

Level 4

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 10 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
  • Must possess a minimum of 8 years of experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.

Level 5

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 12 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
  • Must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.


This is a resume based position in the collective bargaining unit represented by the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and will be governed by the terms of the associated TCU collective bargaining agreement for IT employees. As such, candidates selected for this position will be represented by TCU and be on MTA payroll. In addition, candidates selected may be required to work at any MTA Agency location.
