Network Engineer Jobs

The James Madison University Network Services department is accepting applications for a qualified individual to fill the position of Network Engineer. This position allows for some hybrid work opportunities, but the engineer is expected to live locally (within one hour of campus for on-call responsibilities) and be available for in-office work when needed.

The Network Engineer will be responsible for providing support for the campus wired and wireless networks while ensuring a reliable and secure network. Responsibilities for this position include the installation, management, and maintenance of a variety of network equipment such as switches, routers, and access points throughout the campus network. Other duties include performing wireless surveys, managing inventory, writing documentation, providing technical support to campus users and external departments, monitoring for network availability and performance, managing a vulnerability tracking process, and providing timely problem resolution. As a member of the Operations Team, this position will participate in handling and responding to incoming support requests from campus users. The successful candidate will be involved in operational projects and will collaborate with the other Network Engineers to provide network services to the campus community. The position also requires participation in our on-call rotation for after-hours support.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

Notice of Availability – Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
