JOB OVERVIEW:

An experienced music teacher is responsible for teaching music as part of the school curriculum. The music teacher will follow the guidelines as set out by the education department which include the theory and practice of general music, singing, and playing musical instruments. The music teacher should create an enjoyable learning environment to inspire young minds and help them grow in appreciation of music. Must be skilled in playing musical instruments (importantly- piano and keyboarding), chorus/singing, planning concerts for student participation, and creating after-school music clubs.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Ability to set and mark examination papers.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Choral pedagogy.
• Bachelor’s degree in music.
• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
• License to teach as an academic (state requirement).

MUSIC TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teaching general styles of music.
• Building relationships and mentoring students.
• Planning and implementing a program of instruction and lesson plans.
• Teaching classical piano, practical, and theory.
• Preparing students for practicals and exams.
• Inspiring and motivating students to extend themselves to after-school music clubs.
• Preparing students for school concerts and planned music experiences.
• Teaching singing to students from beginner to advanced level.
• Incorporating musical instruments and movement in lessons.

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

• Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises, or during school activities.
• Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
• Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature apparent or as assigned.
