The Advancement team in the College of Built Environments (CBE) has an exciting opportunity for a full-time multimedia content specialist with excellent video, photographic and visual-design skills. The emphasis of this position is to visually narrate stories that demonstrate the scope, intensity and impact of the work of CBE’s faculty, students, alumni and staff in creating a more just and beautiful world, utilizing the principles of ethical storytelling. The Multimedia Content Specialist will report to the Director for Marketing & Communications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Multimedia Content Specialist will develop, plan and edit high-quality visual content for CBE’s marketing and communications efforts on all publishing platforms, including web, print, multimedia and social platforms. They will collaborate with the team to distribute the content. This work involves having a keen eye toward both the College’s and the University’s priorities, an understanding of their voices and target audiences and a strong attention to detail.
This role calls for creativity, drive and a passion for using multimedia tools to promote the College. It requires technical proficiency with video, still and sound equipment, and visual editing software, as well as a tireless pursuit of visually compelling images of our people and work. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and the ability to work well under pressure are also essential.
Video, Photography and Visual Content Production :
  • Preparing scripts for short-form and long-form videos that highlight the work and people in the College

  • Producing original video and photography in support of strategic storytelling projects

  • Shooting and editing video about students, alumni, faculty research and community partnerships for use on the College website, social media and e-communications

  • Finding and formatting visuals for e-newsletters, the College website and social media channels

  • Creating images/graphics of pride points for use on social media, websites and promotional materials

  • Working with logos and creating visual designs consistent with the College and UW branding.

  • Curating photos and videos, developing and maintaining a robust photo and video database and managing photo and video permissions and distribution.

  • Other Content Support
  • Contribute to and update the College’s editorial/planning calendar.

  • Work with the Advancement team to create digital campaign graphics for the website, social media and e-marketing platforms

  • Design and coordinate the printing of annual reports, case studies, case statements, calendars, promotional materials, direct mail pieces, stationery, holiday cards and other materials as needed.

  • Developing and preparing written content for the College, conducting interviews with faculty, staff, alumni and students, writing features and news articles, posting materials directly to the College’s website and social media assets

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Bachelor’s degree in video production, multimedia, digital media, or related field and at least two years of proven production experience.
    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Demonstrated experience in photography and web video production

  • Excellent proficiency in tools such as Canva, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premier, Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign)

  • Creative and technical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work outside normal business hours occasionally when necessary

  • Ability to work within tight budgets and ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously

  • DESIRED:
  • Previous experience with HTML

  • Familiarity working in a university/academic environment or experience working in a multi-layered, complex organization
