Job Description

Duties

As a Multimedia Specialist (Serbian), you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to:

  • Identifies persons to interview, relevant news and topics of interest, and develops in-depth questions to ensure an accurate and balanced program.
  • Uses video and digital journalism techniques and equipment to record, select and edit multimedia materials and makes enhancements that add value and interest to digital presentations and website capabilities.
  • Produces, adapts, and edits content for the web, social media, and mobile phone-based news and information outlets.
  • Ensures all multimedia website capabilities are functioning properly and coordinates and edits potential website and mobile based content from staff members and contractors prior to posting.
  • Engages with social media audience in Serbian; uses social media as a reporting tool.
  • Reports on special events in Washington and travels to other locations in the U.S. and in other areas to cover important events.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in target area to plan and develop pertinent, balanced, and accurate reporting and programming content that will hold and expand audience interest and participation.
  • Serves as editor of colleagues' translations and originations, and performs fact-checking, difficult translations and adaptations for a variety of centrally prepared English language news and features and translates into idiomatic Serbian.
  • Oversees content marketing efforts by setting ad budget, choosing most effective platform, and creating a campaign for purchased media across all social platforms; and serves as a project leader on digital and cross-platform initiatives. Explores new developments in web-based and mobile applications for communicating VOA news and information to targeted audiences.
  • Produces original news and information, and adapts VOA news and information for the Service's website and other social media sites, i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Uses background in journalism to teach sound practice and the proper place of user-generated content for all platforms, including radio and television.
  • Conducts live or taped interviews on political, economic, scientific, cultural and other subjects of interest to targeted audiences.

  • This is a public trust non-critical sensitive, moderate risk. If selected, this position requires the completion of the SF-86.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and the Serbian language.

  • The full performance grade level for this position is GS-12.

Qualifications

Screen out factor: Applicant must have fluency in both English and Serbian languages that enables you to speak, read, write, report, and translate in both languages. This language screen out factor MUST be listed in your resume to receive consideration.
Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the GS-11 or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill and ability to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled.
  • Writing for multimedia with an emphasis on writing for television;
  • Knowledge of Serbia, its history, economics, culture, socio-political development, as well as its media landscape and trends.
  • Control room protocol while directing the actions of a large technical crew, (camera operators, technical directors, audio technicians, etc.);
  • Knowledge of various television and video production techniques that shows experience producing diverse program formats, panel discussions, news broadcasts, magazine shows, etc.;
  • Knowledge of the current developments in the field of TV production and satellite broadcasting, including advances in production techniques and delivery methods;
