Job Description
Summary About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between. Responsibilities Perform duties as the Motor Transport Officer and supervisor of the Directorate of Logistics, Transportation Division, Vehicle Operations. Prepare standard operating procedures (SOP) and directives pertaining to the proper use of military owned/leased vehicles. Conduct special studies to develop data for supervisor and higher echelons regarding manpower and vehicle availability, utilization by unit, cost factors, fleet composition requirements, and/or adjustment, reimbursable status, and projected changes. Plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. Determine requirements and develop justifications for vehicles needed in support of the installation. Perform analysis of the vehicle fleet regarding utilization, cost per mile, monthly lease costs and maintenance and repair time. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes1) providing technical guidance on transportation services, equipment operations, maintenance and repairs; 2) analyzing utilization of fleet equipment and creating reports or summaries of studies; 3) conducting transportation and fleet studies and making recommendations for improvement; and 4) monitoring vehicle accidents and repairs to motor vehicles and preparing reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, nautical science. (NOTE: You must upload/attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package. Your degree must be from an accredited college or university.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
