The grounds maintenance and landscaping unit is a component of the Facility Services Department. Its mission is to properly and safely maintain and beautify LSUE's campus which comprises of approximately I 00 acres of land. Numerous trees, shrubs, flower beds and manicured lawns are positioned throughout the campus. Other key areas and focal points that require detailed attention include the Chancellor's residence lawn, the athletic fields, two primary boulevard entrances to the campus, decorative fountain, clock tower plaza, courtyards, etc. In addition to this primary mission, this unit also provides support to the overall Facility Service Department in the area of special event setups, campus deliveries and the maintenance of the motor pool fleet, which includes approximately 20 vehicles. The role of the person filling the Mobile Equipment Operator Light position, is to operate and provide general maintenance to the associated equipment needed to maintain and beautify the campus along with other duties as outlined below.
60% - Equipment Operator
Operate all equipment enumerated for the Mobile Equipment Operator Light, as necessary along with associated general maintenance functions as follows:
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment such as checking fluid levels, replacing oil & filters, replacing belts, sharpening/replacing blades, keeping equipment clean and in safe operating condition, etc.
  • Operate various utility tractors and vehicles such as 2x4 & 2x6 Gators, Man Lift, etc.
  • Operate 20 horsepower rotary mowers.
30% - General Maintenance
  • Routine general inspections, maintenance, cleaning, etc., to motor pool and shop vehicles
  • Spraying weed killer around buildings, light poles, ditches, etc.
  • Trimming all low-lying tree limbs, shrubs, picking up branches, debris, etc.
  • Pressure wash exterior of buildings
  • Picking up & properly disposing all exterior garbage receptacles on campus.
  • Edging, weed eating, blowing off grass & other debris from sidewalks, entrances of buildings, parking lots, etc.
10% -
  • Deliver various pieces of equipment, furniture, paper, supplies, miscellaneous packages, etc., from the central receiving
  • Transport, setup and breakdown tables, chairs, stages, tents, etc., for designated functions on and off campus for events such as commencement, special banquets, meetings, festivals, etc.
