MINE OPERATIONS SAFETY AND TRAINING COORDINATOR
Golden Queen Mining Company, LLC (“Golden Queen”) operates the Soledad Mountain Mine (“Soledad Mountain”), an open pit, heap leach gold and silver operation located just outside the town of Mojave, California, approximately 90 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Golden Queen is a single asset producer and does not carry a “home office.” All employees live in private housing in nearby towns and commute by personal automobile.
Soledad Mountain uses conventional open pit mining methods and is owner-operated, with a primarily Komatsu fleet of shovels, front end loaders, and 100-ton trucks. Crushing is three stages (jaw, cone, and HPGR). Ore is drum agglomerated with cement and conveyed to the heap leach pad by conveyor. Metal is recovered via cyanide heap leach and Merrill-Crowe processes.
The company is seeking a Mine Operations Safety and Training Coordinator for its Soledad Mountain Project (the “Project”) in Mojave. The Mine Operations Safety and Training Coordinator will oversee department wide health and safety issues, develop and implement safe working practices and procedures and ensure compliance with both MSHA/OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Must have direct experience in drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and the use of support equipment. This is a safety sensitive position.
The position reports to the Mine Operations General Foreman.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advises management on problem correction
- Conduct safety walk-through inspections of workplace facilities.
- Monitor and investigate “near-miss” situations.
- Maintains the documentation to ensure employee’s training courses are up to date
- Coordinate and present classes in all areas of safe working activities.
- Meets compliance requirements of federal or state regulations
- Formulates and suggests work safety standards and enforces procedures. Risk prevention areas include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions
- Maintain required safety and training documents/files.
- Conduct accident/injury investigations.
- Supports the safety programs to protect employees against harm, and maintain safe working conditions
- Conducts field safety audits to ensure that all employees are working in a safe manner
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gather information for standard operating procedure development
- Train and teach operators on mining skills
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Develop best practices and tools for project execution
- Strong problem solving skills
- Computer skills Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals
- Administrative experience in writing and implementing SOP’s.
- General knowledge and ability to enforce safety and MSHA rules
- Driver’s License required
- High School Diploma or GED
- 5-10 Years mining experience as an equipment operator
- Certification in First Aid and CPR a plus
- Self-starter with a self-motivating attitude
- Strong interpersonal skills.
