Position Summary:
The Microbiologist helps support the company Quality System with a direct emphasis on the Environmental Monitoring and Hygienic Practices Program by assuring company standards are maintained and product integrity is preserved. The employee complies with company policies and procedures, and GMP, OSHA, Federal, State, and Local regulations.
Essential Functions
- Issue and perform internal investigations, deviations or event reports and ensure the closure of such reports for nonconforming results, in a timely manner by finding root cause and eliminating it.
- Swab sites throughout the facility and train other members of the laboratory operations team on proper swabbing and aseptic techniques.
- Collaborate with Production, Research and Development and other departments involved in Fermentation Projects.
- Track, trend, and analyze Environmental Monitoring and microbiology testing data and make visual through the company visual management system.
- Attends departmental and shop-floor huddles as necessary to improve quality and hygienic practices throughout the organization.
- Perform routine walks throughout the facility to grasp how the hygienic program is functioning.
- Oversees, maintains, trains on, and continuously improves the Hygienic Practices and Environmental Monitoring Program by working as a cross-functional leader throughout the organization.
- Evaluate and implement continuous improvement initiates to eliminate waste (“non-value added work”) in the processes.
- Service as Subject Matter Expert during internal and external audits, risk assessments, and investigations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Perform internal and external audits as necessary.
- Writes, reviews, and approves SOPs as necessary.
Education & Experience
- 7+ years of experience in a Quality role within a cGMP manufacturing environment
- Attainment of a 4-year degree in Microbiology

Work Environment
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is in an office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment which may include lifting up to 25 pounds for extended periods of time throughout the day.
- This position involves sitting for extended periods of time, however, may be exposed to manufacturing areas where moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery are located.
Work Schedule
- Travel may be required
- Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm (shifts may vary based on needs of the company)
- Occasional overtime may be required
