Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primarily responsible overseeing all Breeder operations including operation of pullet farms, breeder farms and department employees.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:


  • Implement and monitor pullet and breeder programs, providing communication and direction to contract growers
  • Provide performance and cost numbers to accounting ensuring reporting is accurately completed and recorded as required
  • Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions on a fair and consistent basis
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with Company policies, NCC Animal Welfare guidelines, and Federal and State regulations (i.e. USDA, OSHA, etc.) while achieving the highest level of productivity
  • Maintain pullet growing and breeder flock agreements
  • Oversee and manage assigned breeder operations, ensuring required quantity and quality of
  • Manage department by establishing procedures and adjusting as necessary to meet grower schedules, increase efficiencies and meet or exceed budget objectives
  • Follow and promote all safety initiatives, helping to maintain a zero accident culture
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
  • Plan, organize and order growing pullets and birds in production
  • Monitor pullet and breeder flock health (i.e. pullet placement, moves, vaccinations, etc.) to ensure egg hatch numbers
  • Mentor, coach and train/ cross-train employees encouraging career development; provide consistent feedback concerning strengths and areas in need of improvement
  • Hatch eggs are available for hatcheries


SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Manage a team of Breeder Representatives, Technicians and Clerks
  • This role is a Leader of People role with required competencies: Sizing up People, Delegation, Planning, Customer Focus and Conflict Management


EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Combination of experience and education may be substituted for degree
  • Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving history
  • Bachelors’ degree related discipline from an accredited institution


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to communicate with internal and external customers in a timely and professional manner
  • Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency
  • Proficient computer and math skills
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Minimum four (4) years’ demonstrated leadership experience including knowledge of timekeeping requirements, policy adherence, Top 25 behaviors, conflict resolution with the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience poultry breeder operations
  • Must have exceptional communication, both verbal and written, attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively in English


SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:


  • Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory
  • Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programs


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to work non-standard or extended shifts including nights, weekends, and/or holidays as needed
  • Ability to travel between grower sites
  • Ability to work in an outside environment (including inclement weather) to visually inspect birds; walking from one to several miles per day
  • Ability to work around strong and possibly foul odors such as ammonia
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
