Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Under general supervision reads meters on customer premises and other locations. Changes out malfunctioning or damaged electric meters. Meters capable of being changed out are single phase, Class 200/240V meters. Terminates electric and turns off gas service to customers as directed. Connects electric service at the meter; notes and reports unusual conditions and irregularities in equipment; installs locking devices in meters as assigned. Drives vehicles as assigned.
Typical Duties

• Observes meter readings to determine unusual use or discrepancies from previous reading and accuracy of present readings. Observes metering equipment for diversions and other irregularities; records and reports irregularities.
• Obtains and returns customer's keys from and to assigned storage; takes proper care of keys.
• Reports abnormal meter conditions such as noisy meters, dead meters and unmetered customers in accordance with established procedures.
• Delivers notices to customer's premises.
• Reads or otherwise retrieves data from meters as assigned. Records meter readings and makes entries in the prescribed manner. Observes and follows meter reading instructions.
• Extends proper courtesy and consideration to customers and customer's property.
• As directed, disconnects gas or electric service at the meter or at the service entrance; reconnects electric service at the meter. Inserts plug or other sealing device on residential gas meters as directed.
• Resets and seals meters after reading and records reading in the established manner. Installs locking devices on meters as assigned.
• Leads, trains and instructs employees in their work.
• Performs all work in a safe manner. Complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, their fellow employees and the public from injury.
