Job Description
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Exceptional communication skills including strong writing, editing and presentation abilities.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Develop and execute special programming and events for zoo members that cultivate ownership in the zoo and connect and engage them with the zoo’s mission.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and utilize complex donor database.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, organized and able to respond to multiple demands.
  • Write, design, produce, and distribute membership materials including but not limited to email campaigns, direct mail, social media, and other visual and editorial materials.
  • One year of relevant experience working in a fundraising or relevant non-profit position.
  • Personable with a sense of humor and positive outlook.
  • This role will have a variable shifting schedule, with expectations to work weekends, when necessary (i.e. working 40-hours Wednesday through Sunday, having Monday & Tuesday as days off).
  • Perform significant administrative duties critical to donor stewardship and to the daily functions of the development department. Contribute to or manage other stewardship and donor relations initiatives as needed.
  • Excellent computer skills including all Microsoft Office programs especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Acts with integrity, has high standards of professional conduct and respect for confidentiality.
  • Maintain a portfolio of approximately 100 donors. Work in coordination with the Manager of Donor Society Clubs to move portfolios through cultivation, qualification, and solicitation, including written and face-to-face solicitation and stewardship.
  • Research, implement, assess, and oversee innovative online fundraising initiatives, working cross-departmentally when necessary. Continue to grow new and existing programs including: social media, liquidation of physical goods, recurring gifts, Kroger Community Care, and Amazon Wish List.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to listen perceptively.
  • Elevate membership beyond a good value for admission by developing programming and events for members that foster connection and loyalty to the zoo’s mission, create brand ambassadors, and attract new members.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside regular business hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Attend zoo events and activities as required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Additional duties as assigned or as required.
  • Act as in-house liaison with all departments to promote membership sales, facilitate member engagement, work with the Development Events Manager to plan and execute special events and cultivate further support at higher membership levels.
  • A strong affinity for the mission of Zoo Knoxville.
  • Using Raiser’s Edge and Gateway Galaxy, enter and maintain accurate and detailed donor information including event attendance, Circle of Friends membership records, and other pertinent information.
  • Create, plan, manage, roll out, and evaluate a comprehensive animal adoption program including the development of specific goals for the number of donors and dollars for the program.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the Circle of Friends program, which includes, but is not limited to: monitoring email and phone accounts, assisting with fulfillment of Circle of Friends materials, and scheduling and providing tours.
