The Medical Scientific Liaison provides appropriate product and disease state education to key opinion leaders community physicians, investigators and other healthcare professionals related to the current and developing Janssen Immunology portfolio in compliance with all policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Function with high integrity and be follows the Credo value.
  • Execute research initiatives using knowledge of standards of care and company/investigator sponsored clinical trials and competitor landscape to facilitate external-internal research communication, seeking engagement with external investigators regarding unsolicited research inquiries and act as liaison to R&D, Medical Affairs and operations teams.
  • Provide clinical trial support to identify potential sites, resolve issues with enrolled sites, and participate in meetings as appropriate, including site initiation visits and investigator launch meetings.
  • Maintain in-depth scientific and therapeutic knowledge, including Janssen and competitive products as well as disease states within the franchise.
  • Represent and support Janssen Immunology scientific meetings including congresses, symposia, advisory boards, and investigator meetings. Interpret and report findings with recommendations for action to relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Build external relationships with recognized opinion leaders to identify and address scientific needs and stay abreast of current scientific trends. Provide clinical support to Immunology opinion leaders and community physicians on the clinical application of Janssen existing and future products, respond to their unsolicited requests for scientific information via 1:1 or group discussions, and, as needed, discuss disease state concepts and in-depth medical topics aligned with medical affairs strategy.
  • Build interdependent partnerships by communicating openly and frequently with partners, demonstrating commitment to the partnership in both words and actions.
  • Provide fair balanced, objective, scientific information to health care professionals and to internal business partners as required by scientific and business needs.
  • Execute plans regarding reactive and proactive outreaches as approved via the legal/HCC exceptions process.
  • Provide scientific support and leadership to business and Medical Affairs partners, including training, education, and other scientific projects.
  • Consistently maintain a Territory Strategy Plan and share medical insights details with Medical Scientific Liaison Leadership to include: a description of Health Care Providers (HCP), academic and community practices and healthcare systems, and describe regional influence patterns, referral data, research activity, changing external healthcare landscape and description of field partnerships.
  • Provide high level research support for company and investigator-initiated research and conduct activities in accordance with current regulatory and health care compliance guidelines.
  • Collect and communicate clinical insights and intelligence on the market environment, clinical strategies, competition, and other developments relevant to Janssen success.
  • Following all internal policies and functions as the scientific expert on current and future Janssen Immunology products in the area relevant to internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build key opinion leader partnerships. This includes building relationships and seeking to understand customer needs by approaching each interaction as an opportunity to build and strengthen relationships and conducting ongoing dialogue with customers to understand perspectives.
  • Prioritize franchise customer-based initiatives and field responsibilities, while balancing administrative duties and project responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Residency/fellowship/industry experience is preferred.
  • Advanced terminal degree, Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Doctor of Medicine (MD)/ Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), is required.
  • This position requires up to twenty percent (20%) of domestic travel and minimum of 50% in field customer interactions.
  • Knowledge or experience in Immunology (Dermatology, Rheumatology or Gastroenterology) therapeutic area is highly preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience is required. Clinical, research or pharmaceutical setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency with utilization of computer, company applications, and remote technology is required. Experience with iPad applications are preferred.
  • The MSL is self-motivated, with strategic thinking and strong territory management skills.
  • This position does not offer relocation.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are required.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish (oral and written) is required.
  • Research and health care system knowledge is preferred.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
