Make your mark for patients

We are looking for an innovative, motivated, and collaborative Medical Science Liaison, Capitol Ecosystem - (Epilepsy and Epilepsy Rare Syndromes), to join our Medical Affairs team in the Capitol region.

The MSL will identify and foster purposeful partnerships with key scientific influencers to drive new sources of patient value for the Epilepsy and Rare (epilepsy) Syndrome's portfolio. They will engage in peer-level scientific exchange, optimizing understanding of UCB therapies for the correct patient segments in a scientific and balanced manner within the local health ecosystem. This position covers the Capitol (District of Columbia, northern VA, MD, DE, southern NJ, Philadelphia, PA and surrounding area) region of the United States. The position requires effective territory management, with approximately 70-80% of the time focused on regional stakeholder interactions to develop and manage professional, peer-to-peer working relationships.

About the role

The Medical Science Liaison will develop relationships of trust and mutual support built on shared interests in fostering a deep, science-driven understanding of treating epilepsy and rare syndromes. This individual will closely collaborate to advance local patient value-oriented initiatives (i.e., Medical, RWE) with key stakeholders.

What you’ll do

  • Proactively identify new ways to bring value to internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute meaningful insights to medical strategies and tactics
  • Discuss UCB medical objectives and findings appropriately through thought leader engagement and educational activities.
  • Represent UCB at local, regional, and national professional and academic conferences where issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and rare syndromes are addressed

Who you’ll work with

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with field teams to ensure optimal territory management and patient care in a compliant fashion
  • Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Clinical Investigators, patient advocacy groups and other regional influencers
  • Further develop and refine scientific expertise and skillset through regular interaction with external and internal thought leaders

Interested? For this role, we’re looking for the following education, experience, and skills.

  • Ability to travel 60-80% in the designated territory with limited travel outside of the territory as needed
  • NP or PA with 3+ year experience as an MSL or 3+ years direct clinical experience in the relevant therapeutic area or 5+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Doctoral level degree, PharmD, Ph.D., and/or MD
  • Live within the territory
  • Professional (including clinical) experience in epilepsy and/or rare syndromes preferred
  • Capability to actively listen and process information to identify opportunities, including innovative solutions and services
  • Able to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • 3+ years of MSL experience is strongly preferred
  • Ability to take the initiative on projects, identify what is necessary to complete tasks, and execute independently
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Business acumen with a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, healthcare arena, and local ecosystem
