Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Participates in the academic and physical recruit training program of the Louisville Metro Police Academy

Maintain standards of mental and physical fitness throughout the training program.

Maintain acceptable class standing and adhere to professional conduct.

Investigates crimes against persons and property; interviews victims and witnesses; searches for, evaluates and secures/collects evidence; and arrests suspected perpetrator(s).

Processes warrants and apprehends or assists in the apprehension of wanted persons by court orders or actions in criminal cases.

Prepares and submits required reports and provides assistance, information, and directions to the public.

High school diploma or equivalent

Ambulatory skills, e.g. stand, walk, sit, run, jump, bend and crawl;

Successful completion of the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission Certified Basic Police Academy (Act 120) training.

A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.

Develop and continually enhance interview and interrogation skills.

Develop and maintain sound analytical skills to foster sound decision making.

Develop and maintain proficiency in firearms, first aid, and other areas of required certification.

Responding to calls for police services.

Maintain hypervigilant posture at key State facilities.

Performs community policing through informational presentations and educational seminars for other state agencies, schools, the public and community organizations.

At least three years' experience as a Certified Police Officer.

Implements appropriate law enforcement action in response to criminal, domestic violence, traffic, miscellaneous complaints and other activities.

Performs vehicle and foot patrol of assigned areas.

Provides protective services to judges, victims, jurors, witnesses, state employees and visitors, legislators and the general public as needed.

Provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies as back-up or primary response.

Meet all applicable medical and physical requirements, AND;

General knowledge and ability to interpret and apply Oregon Revised Statue (ORS) and Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR)

Effective written and verbal communication skills that can de-escalate a situation, end an attempted assault, and maintain mental and emotional safety

Ability to apply critical thinking and decision-making skills in stressful situations where timely resolution is required

Applications received from May 17, 2023 through June 14, 2023, will be considered for a Recruit Class beginning in October 2023.

Applications received after June 14, 2023 will be considered for subsequent Recruit Classes.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Patrolling assigned City beat for traffic and other violations using a variety of transportation including patrol car, motorcycle, bicycle, and horse

Making traffic stops and intervening in other criminal activity

Conducting general field services, including monitoring police radio and responding to citizen calls and complaints

Interviewing suspects and witnesses and following up with victims
