Job Description
Med Records Clerk


This position is responsible for the oversight and maintenance of the medical records related to the physician's practices, working under the guidelines of HIPAA and the general HMC record retention policies. Additional responsibilities could include release of information practices.


Responsibilities


  • Examining patient medical records for completeness, ensuring all information is included (no deficiencies) and referring to the appropriate area for follow up.
  • Responsible for the organization of the HIM Chart Room and other HIM Chart Storage locations.
  • Maintaining patient records in both electronic and paper formats.
  • Responsible for answering department calls and responding to requests promptly.
  • Scanning of medical record and loose material.
  • Locating, delivering, retrieving, purging, and filing medical records daily.
  • Transporting medical records or other related material, to and from hospital department's areas as needed/requested.


Requirements


  • Ability to use a computer to perform word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics, if assigned.
  • RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
  • Medical terminology and previous experience in a medical records/health information management environment extremely helpful.
  • Successful applicant should possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) with training or familiarity with office duties.
