A bit more about this role:
In addition to starting a new health plan, Devoted Health, Inc has launched Devoted Medical, an innovative, world-class, virtual care delivery program across the country. The purpose of Devoted Medical is to provide the care that our patients need that is not currently available between a member’s PCP and the hospital. This includes providing virtual, urgent, and mobile care delivery that operate 24/7 and ensures that all members of Devoted Health have a way to access care.
We are currently seeking a Medical Director for our Care on Demand program to further develop the clinical model and ensure excellence on key performance indicators while being consistent with Devoted’s values of treating every member like family.
This represents an amazing opportunity for an ambitious clinician-leader with an entrepreneurial streak. As the Medical Director for Care on Demand, you are responsible for building a team and an operation to handle the acute needs of our membership. Specifically, you will provide clinical leadership for the 3 layers of Devoted’s Care on Demand program: (1) inbound triage and appropriate dispositioning of clinical symptoms by RN staff; (2) virtual urgent care delivered by Nurse Practitioners (NPs); (3) mobile/virtual observation unit for multi-day care of acute clinical issues (e.g. CHF exacerbation or complicated infections) by an interprofessional team.
In short, we want to meet the care needs of our members before they feel compelled to use the emergency room unnecessarily. Building our Care on Demand solution is a critical part of the long-term success of Devoted Medical as we progress on our journey to provide comprehensive virtual and in-home care for our membership.
On a day to day basis, you’d be responsible for:
  • Provide direct patient care and available for clinical escalations
  • Coordinating with Devoted’s Regional Medical Directors and community primary care practices to ensure continuity and cohesive care
  • Clinical architect of the care model
  • Managing vendors and technology needed to achieve success (e.g. on-call service technology to connect with members needing care, mobile radiology, mobile phlebotomy)
  • Direct leadership of the clinical managers - and indirectly the entire Care on Demand clinical staff (RN, NP, MDs)
  • Cross-functional coordination within Devoted (e.g. with Marketing) to promote utilization of the service line
  • Developing and evolving the vision for the service line

Skills and Experience:
  • Experience managing other clinicians
  • Experience designing and implementing interventions to improve population health
  • Comfort interfacing with technical teams and technology based solutions.
  • A licensed physician with ideally 5 or more years working in clinical practice (emergency medicine, internal medicine, or family medicine preferred) who is willing to continue practicing clinical medicine in the context of virtual care
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
  • An understanding of how different health care payment models work including managed care models and how to measure and track care quality.
  • Experience with virtual care preferred; experience with mobile care preferred; experience with Medicare patients preferred; experience with urgent care preferred.

Salary Range: $285,000 - $325,000 annually
