What we are looking for NextCare Urgent Care is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Medical Assistant / Patient Service Specialist (Medical Front Office Receptionist) that likes the challenge of a fast pace setting and working in a team environment. Location To join our team in Fredericksburg, VA. Responsibilities The Medical Assistant / Patient Service Specialist (Medical Front Office Receptionist) is a dual role of being the first point of contact for patients in the clinic while supporting front office functions, as well as caring for patients in a Medical Assistant capacity while supporting back office functions. The Patient Service Specialist keeps patients and families informed of wait times, monitors the flow of patients, processes patients for discharge including preparing charges, collecting payment, obtaining all necessary signatures and issuing receipts. The Medical Assistant performs patient care duties under the Medical Assistant scope of practice in the urgent care setting. How you will make an impact The Medical Assistant / Patient Service Specialist (Medical Front Office Receptionist) supports the organization with customer service and treating all of our patients with respect and dignity. They ensure the clinic and front reception area is running smoothly and patient flow at the optimum, as well as provide patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient. Essential Education, Experience and Skills: Candidates in Arizona Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; and


  • The medical assistant candidate was directly supervised by a maximum of three physician(s), physician group(s), physician assistant(s), or nurse practitioner(s) for a minimum of 2000 hours total (approximately working 40 hours/week for 12 months)*. (Candidates must complete the All States Except Arizona Medical Assistant Candidate Employment Attestation.)
  • A. The medical assistant candidate completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND
  • The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health; or
  • Was Employed as a medical assistant for one (1) year or more after program completion must have occurred prior to February 2, 2000,*; or (Candidates must complete the Arizona Medical Assistant Candidate Employment Attestation)
  • Certification* is required. Successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the following two agencies:
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies; or
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification; or
  • The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); or
  • American National Standards Institute; or Certifying organizations accepted are:
  • The medical assistant candidate completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND
  • American National Standards Institute Certifying organizations accepted in Arizona are:
  • Employed as a medical assistant for one (1) year or more after program completion; (Candidates must complete the All States Except Arizona Medical Assistant Candidate Employment Attestation.)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) provides the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and certification to individuals who have completed the AMT criteria; or
  • The medical assistant completed a United States Armed Forces medical services training program*. (Candidates must complete the Arizona Medical Assistant Candidate Employment Attestation) Employed in all states other than Arizona Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; and
  • The medical assistant candidate has completed an APPROVED Medical Assistant Training Program*.
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification; or
  • Certification is not required but is preferred. Approved medical assistant training program, means a program accredited by one of the following two-accreditation organizations:
  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA)-administers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and certification
  • Certification is not required but is preferred. Approved medical assistant training program, means a program accredited by one of the following two-accreditation organizations:
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) provides the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and certification to individuals who have completed the AMT criteria; or
  • The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health; or
  • National Commission for Certifying Agencies; or
  • The medical assistant candidate is eligible for hire if they meet one of the following three (3) criteria within A., or B., or C
  • The medical assistant candidate may be hired if they meet one of the following three (3) criteria within A., or B., or
  • The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); or
  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA)-administers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and certification
  • The medical assistant candidate has completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND
  • The medical assistant candidate has completed an APPROVED Medical Assistant Training Program*.
  • Certification* is required. Successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the following two agencies:
  • The medical assistant candidate has completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program AND
  • The U.S. Department of Education DAPIP
  • The medical assistant completed a United States Armed Forces medical services training program*. (Candidates must complete the All States Except Arizona Medical Assistant Candidate Employment Attestation.)
