Martin Marietta is seeking a Mechanic Welder/Fabricator to work on asphalt plants and various industrial equipment throughout the metropolitan area. This position will be responsible for safely and efficiently repairing, fabricating, and maintaining plant industrial equipment and machinery inclusive of conveyor systems, piping, tanks, crushing equipment, asphalt plant equipment, and other mobile equipment. This is a union position and membership in the IUOE Local 49 is required.
Essential Functions
- Performs fabrication and repairs to processing equipment, mobile crushing equipment, and asphalt plant equipment.
- Aides in the training of co-workers as needed.
- Capable of following required safety procedures including OSHA standards.
- Maximizing the performance of equipment by performing repairs and ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on a timely basis.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains all plant equipment often in out-of-position welding.

Work Environment
This role will be based out of the maintenance facility in Maple Grove, Minnesota – 10% in a shop setting, 90% in the field/outdoors at various locations around the metro area.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to feel, or handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position at a minimum of 40 hours per week and may require overtime as needed.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Ability to work at elevated heights comfortably and safely.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints from engineering shop drawings.
- Experienced with operating various manlifts with heights of up to 80’.
- Good understanding of Asphalt plants and the operation.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Able to ensure a safe work environment by prioritizing safety, then quality, followed by production.
- Able to adhere to MSHA & OSHA guidelines and plant safety rules and regulations.
- Class A or B CDL preferred.
- Able to work outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and in elevated work areas.
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Possess strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge, and skills.
- Able to use a wide variety of hand tools and power tools.
- Strong organizational skills, including planning, scheduling, prioritizing, and record-keeping.
