Mechanical Engineer (Hvac System)

What To Expect

Normal is a pre-seed startup funded by established VCs in Silicon Valley (Liquid2, UpHonest, JetStream). We are building a revolutionary HVAC system, designed from the ground up by combining the latest researchin heating/cooling, robotics, sensor systems, and artificial intelligence. We are hiring our first mechanical engineer, who is going to design and build the mechanical subsystem of our prototypes and bring it to mass production.

What You’ll Do

• Work closely with industrial designers to define product requirements and develop physical prototypes.
• Develop designs in CAD for both detailed parts and master model assemblies.
• Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up.
• Provide production support to help identify and resolve issues.
• Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and other simulations and analyses before releasing designs for production.
• Design and develop of the mechanical subsystem for EVT, DVT, PVT, and finally mass production.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience with FEA.
• Experienced with air conditioning and ventilation systems design.
• (good to have) Knowledge of design of plastic injection molded, sheet metal stamping, and cast parts.
• (good to have) Working experience with hardware supply chains in Asia and the US.
• Experienced with earlier stages of the hardware product development process (EVT and DVT).
• Experienced with DFM and DFA.
• Ability to perform first-principles analysis to ensure a successful design (stress-strain, thermal, tolerance, cost, mass optimization, etc.)
• Proficient in CAD.
• (good to have) Experience with drafting 2D drawings with GD&T.

Compensation

Base salary: $80,000/yr - $150,000/yr

Equity: 0.5%-2%

• Introductory call with the founders
• A paid contract project that is highly relevant to the type of work you will be doing at Normal. The final hiring decision will be made at the end of this project.
