Part-time (20-40 hrs/wk) hourly position staring immediately, flexible schedule, however work hours must overlap with the typical 9am - 5pm work day. Actual hours will be dependent on project workload. Occasional nights and weekends possible depending on project schedules.
The National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS)is a self-sustained transportation safety research center at the University of Iowa's College of Engineering and is generally viewed as one of the worldwide experts in driving safety. Funded by government and industry contracts, NADS utilizes its suite of world-class driving simulators and instrumented on-road vehicles to conduct research studies for the private and public sectors.
The miniSim Research Simulators we design and build are used for research and development at over 65 locations in the US, Canada, and overseas. The successful applicant will be part of a team including software, hardware, IT, and mechanical engineers, and administrative personnel. This position provides experience in the complete design-build-deliver-support process.
Typical duties include:
- System assembly, testing, and setup/teardown of simulators prior to shipment
- System troubleshooting, technical support, and loading and configuring software
- Assist in design, selecting parts and components, and creation of engineering and assembly documentation
- Travel to customer sites for system installation
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Interest in Mechanical/Electrical systems and aptitude demonstrable by experience, hobbies, projects, etc.
- Willingness to learn from others and exhibiting a positive attitude
- Attention to detail, orderliness, efficiency, and desire to produce a high-quality product
- Familiarity with Windows applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc)
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
Desired Qualifications:
- Training in or experience in Industrial Technology, Robotics, Automation, Electronics, etc
- Training or experience in Mech/Elec Design or CAD tools (AutoCAD, Creo, etc)
- Training or experience in Information Technology and Computer Support
