Position Summary:

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for mechanical design and detailing of jigs, fixtures, and automation equipment that will enable manufacturing to efficiently create parts that consistently meet customer expectations. In addition, this position will create and compiling a bill of materials and ensure equipment built is functional and suits the application for which it was designed for.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Must be capable of conception, design and detailing a complete job. This includes developing tools, jigs, fixtures, implementing designs, or integrating machinery, equipment, or computer technologies to ensure effective manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor manufacturing processes to identify ways to reduce losses, decrease time requirements, or improve quality.
  • Participate in and/or lead activities that promote continuous improvement.
  • Participate in and/or lead activities that create a safe working environment.
  • Participate in design reviews with manufacturing, maintenance, and production teams.
  • Provide machine manufacturers with bills of material, machine layout prints and detailed prints required for mechanical machine construction.
  • Work with a team of other Mechanical Designers, teaching, collaborating, and sharing previous learning experiences and best practices.
  • Work with manufacturing and engineering to identify and purchase and/or create equipment as needed and ensure that equipment is validated and can provide consistent results.
  • Create, review and update SOPs (standard operating procedures) as necessary.
  • Resolve problems encountered by manufacturing.
  • Pursue new or revised equipment and technology, which will result in cost savings to the company.
  • Make adjustments/refinements to equipment as necessary.

Education & Job Requirements:

  • Experience with machine and fixture building practices is required.
  • Prefer a minimum of 3 years of boat building experience
  • Must possess mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be capable of performing all the duties and responsibilities of a designer/detailer.
  • Must possess ability to read and create part and machine layout prints.
  • A minimum of a 2-year technical degree plus 8 years of experience designing automation and special machine components is desired. In lieu of a degree, 10 years of experienced designing automation equipment is acceptable.
  • Must possess computer literacy, Excel and Outlook preferred.
  • Must possess ability to convey concepts and ideas.
  • Expert knowledge with Solidworks
