Job Description

Summary

The Materials Manager position will be responsible to coach, drive and lead lean behaviors, principles. They will lead the Materials team using lean concepts to ensure that direct and indirect material is properly forecasted, procured, used and controlled to support production and business metrics including cash flow, inventory, overdue backlog, on-time delivery and transportation / shipment regulatory requirements.
This person will coordinate and expedite the flow of materials according to production schedules and plan/schedule material and production needs. This role impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. This role impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team and has significant input into priorities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure operational alignment with production plan, KPIs and the Quality Management System.
  • Own master planning, material processes and systems, prepare and update production schedules and purchasing needs to minimize excess and obsolete inventory
  • Identify skill gaps based on organizational requirements. Build and develop a high performing team that meets organizational goals and objectives
  • Ownership of ERP system and master data accuracy
  • Lead a team of materials professionals in a highly regulated medical device manufacturing environment
  • Will lead projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.
  • Expected to influence others cross functionally on topics within field, and toward improving local process and plans.
  • Manage integration of new systems/processes
  • Contributes towards site strategy and policy development and ensures delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support materials and inventory recommendations. Uses internal and external sources to help with decision making process.
  • Optimize inventory and process improvements utilizing LEAN tools and processes.
  • Acts as a site mentor for materials management and best practices
  • Manage Phase In / Phase Out (NPI) to minimize obsolete material
  • Conduct daily walks on the “Gemba” to investigate and resolve material issues

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Technical or related discipline and a minimum 5 years of experience with demonstrated success in roles across supply chain, site, and manufacturing experience; or a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum 10 years of experience with demonstrated success in roles across supply chain, site, and manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of management experience that includes direct reports
  • Solid understanding of materials management, MRP, MPS and procurement
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Expected travel <15%
  • Extensive knowledge/experience with optimizing materials management procedures
