SUMMARY
The Materials Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Purchasing, Planning, Logistics and Warehouse Departments Manages to optimize the efficient procurement of raw materials, supplies and services at the most favorable price, in the quantities required when and where needed and maintaining quality standards established.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assumes responsibility for insuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the departments by:
- Formulating site goals, strategies, and operating policies and procedures, and directing implementation of approved changes.
- Making decisions on employees regarding employment, performance appraisal, salary changes, promotions, transfers, or terminations.
- Ensuring productivity levels are maintained through effective monitoring of staffing levels and financial requirements.
- Guiding personnel to achieve optimum performance levels.
- Overseeing the preparation and administration of the annual operating and capital budget.
- Apply principals of continuous improvement to improve efficiency
- Manages site inventory levels to support production, project and sales orders and to meet the company’s cost reduction targets
- Pursues alternate sources of supply
- Plans and forecasts material requirements
- Directs and controls the process of purchase orders, change orders and debit memos
- Maintains accurate and current vendor information
- Negotiates and issues purchase orders, blanket orders and long-term contracts
- Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions
- Directs the expediting of purchase orders
- Maintains a vendor rating system
- Manages Logistics department to make sure all export and import rules and regulations are adhered to
- Arranges the return and/or disposition of rejected receipts, obsolete, damaged or surplus items
- Assists other departments in specifying correct materials for the applications
- Audits open purchase order reports
QUALIFICATIONS
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Thorough knowledge of purchasing and planning functions.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards
- Good organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Good computer skills in MRP/ERP, MS Office applications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) is desirable
