Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. Shriners Children’s is currently seeking a Marketing and Communications Coordinator to join their creative team of professionals dedicated to Shriners over 100-year mission of providing amazing care to children in Boston and beyond. The ideal candidate will have experience with content creation/storytelling that is highly engaging across all platforms, has the potential to attract media attention, and supports the hospital’s mission.


Supports the Marketing & Communications (MARCOM) team, and the hospital system, with the writing and editing of content and stories for Shriners Children’s website; pitches to local and or national media; and generation of articles for internal e-newsletters and our own Leaders in Care magazine. The MARCOM Coordinator is also responsible for assisting with developing our social media strategy and content creation for Shriners Children’s social media channels, for the purpose of internal and external communications and the engagement of our stakeholders. This role also supports the overall marketing and brand recognition strategies of the department; including assisting with patient ambassador program/activities and participating in community development activities.


Strategic Communications 55%


  • Assist Director with internal communications
  • Write and post content for SHC website, e-newsletters and social media channels. Research and write patient stories and other articles to support marketing, donor relations and business development.
  • Follow AP style and SHC identity standards
  • Assist Director with researching, writing and distributing press releases and media advisories.
  • Create digital content and execute location- and system-wide strategy


Collaborative Communications 35%


  • Encourage enthusiasm, positive morale and teamwork among employees
  • Work with other departments and medical staff to solicit stories
  • Coordinate facility special events such as public celebrations, celebrity and VIP visits and others as requested.
  • Assist Director with Shriners International Shrine Center relations
  • Manage and maintain patient ambassador program
  • Ensure confidentiality and patient privacy during events and media visits
  • Travel as needed to attend meetings or represent SHC at community, Shrine Center or fundraising events.


Departmental Support 10%


  • Upload photos, videos and consents to Digital Assets Management system
  • Provides reports on department activity and progress toward goals
  • Manage multiple projects
  • General office duties including, but not limited to, answering phones, filing, inventory of marketing collateral, meeting minutes
  • Research media outlets and maintain current media contact list, using media monitoring platform.


The ideal candidate will have 3 years of Marketing, Communications and Public Relations experience, strong writing and editing experience and digital social media experience. MS Office Suite proficiency is required, as is the ability to manage multiple projects. A current Bachelor's Degree in Marketing/Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field is required. Key skills for this position include accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar as well as close attention to detail. Bilingual skills a plus.
