Job Description
GlassRoots sparks change and enables growth in individuals and communities through the transformative power of glass art. Building skills, igniting creativity, inspiring confidence and impacting economic vitality

We are the connection point, the spark of ignition to inspire artistic creation and help people (with a focus on youth and young adults) and communities transform for the better. Able to make things happen, this spark adds the vital energy that sets change in motion. A spark will turn glass into artistry, inspire our students, and impact our community. It’s the heat, the light and the active catalyst that gets things started so they can continue to evolve. We truly spark change; when glass becomes art, it’s transformational.

Change is empowering and exhilarating. GlassRoots makes a difference in people’s lives and in their community by inspiring confidence, just as glass itself can be formed in new and exciting ways. We ignite the forces of change that are rooted in inclusion with respect for individuality. Our work enables transformation by building skills, harnessing energy, and inspiring creativity.

GlassRoots is a 22-year old art and education center, located in Newark’s newly-designated Arts and Education District in Downtown Newark. Early this summer we unveiled our new brand identity, and we are currently developing a new marketing plan and website that incorporates this new visual vision for the organization. These will all be critical tools for the new Marketing and Communications Manager.

A list of current GlassRoots programs can be found on our website www.glassroots.org.

As the Marketing and Communication Manager for an arts and education non-profit, you will be charged with developing and executing effective marketing and communication strategies to advance GlassRoots’ mission, programs, business lines, and other strategic initiatives. You will work closely with Program and Development Directors to enhance the organization's brand image, engage stakeholders, and drive audience, awareness and support for its activities. Your role will involve managing marketing campaigns, overseeing communication channels, and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve our goals.

  • Proficiency in using various marketing and communication tools, such as CMS platforms, social media management tools, email marketing software, and analytics platforms.
  • Maintain and enhance the organization's brand image and ensure consistent brand messaging across all communication channels.
  • Coordinate with external partners, sponsors, and vendors to leverage additional marketing resources and support.
  • Develop comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with the organization's goals and target audience.
  • Plan and execute effective communication strategies to engage stakeholders, including donors, program participants, and the general public.
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Understanding of non-profit organizations, their missions, and the unique challenges and opportunities they face.
  • Brand Management
  • Marketing Strategy Development
  • Ensure adherence to new brand guidelines.
  • Digital Marketing
  • Analyze digital marketing data and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaboration and Relationship Management
  • Proven experience (3-6 years) in marketing, communication, or public relations roles, preferably within the non-profit sector.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify opportunities for growth and target new audiences.
  • Collaborate with program director and other internal stakeholders to understand and promote programmatic and sales initiatives effectively.
  • Oversee the organization's digital marketing efforts, including website management, search engine optimization (SEO), social media, email marketing, and online advertising campaigns.
  • Create compelling content for various communication channels, such as websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Monitor brand perception and reputation in the community and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content for different audiences and channels. You think of yourself as a storyteller.
  • A prior track record leveraging data and analytics to support income and attendance goals.
  • Communications and Public Relations
  • Strong knowledge of marketing principles, strategies, and tactics, including digital marketing techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful marketing campaigns and measure their impact.
  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets and journalists to secure media coverage and maximize exposure.
  • Collaborate with GlassRoots leadership team to define marketing objectives, budgets, and timelines.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

This is a “wish list.” We understand that every candidate will not possess all of these qualifications. If you have many of these qualifications and can imagine yourself in this position, please apply.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

We are committed to the principles of equal opportunity and diversity and to attracting and supporting a staff and board who represent the rich diversity of the communities we serve. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or mental or physical disability.

Compensation

Compensation based on experience. GlassRoots offers generous benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, vacation, professional development opportunities, PTO and holidays, and a flexible work schedule. We additionally offer trade time in our studios. This position is onsite or hybrid. Reports to Executive Director.
