Job Description
PURPOSE:


Plans and coordinates assembly processes, tools, fixtures and equipment for designated area of responsibility within assembly. Leads special projects as assigned including equipment/structure modifications within areas of responsibility.


RESPOSIBILITIES:


  • Creates and maintains assembly process sheets.
  • Analyzes and plans space requirements & workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Provides specialized technical guidance, training, process improvement activities and support to assigned process area and production associates.
  • Plans and/or leads engineering changes and deviations for assembly.
  • Assists with analysis on process and quality issues not solvable by production areas.
  • Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding assembly capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Leads any special projects and/or self-initiated projects for continuous improvement, structural planning and/or other series and new model related planning projects.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future assembly requirements and potential.
  • Develops, evaluates and improves assembly processes and process methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication process, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by BMW operations supervisor.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Confers with finance, procurement, design staff and vendors concerning product design, process tools, fixtures and equipment to ensure efficient production methods and to arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts.
  • Evaluates product according to specifications and quality standards.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Experience: 1+ years of experience in an engineering environment or participation in 6 months of an engineering internship/co-op (automotive process or automotive manufacturing engineering preferred).
  • BS Degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering preferred); OR AS degree in Engineering AND the equivalent of 2 years related engineering experience; OR the equivalent of 4 years related engineering experience.


SKILLS:


  • Intermediate = long and short-term project management experience (structure projects, continuous improvement, process analysis, new model)
  • Intermediate = experience in assembly and functionality of vehicle systems (electrical, mechanical, modular, & diagnostic preferred)
  • Intermediate = experience using Microsoft office applications
  • Basic = skills in BMW applications/systems (PCSQ, DZA, SAP, TAIS, IPA)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to use quality planning tools
  • Intermediate = cross functional communication experience
  • Basic = knowledge of Assembly department goals and objectives
  • Intermediate = problem investigation & data analysis experience
  • Ability to use and apply statistical methods to aid with process analysis (risk filters, FMEAs, SPC, process/machine capability)


FLSA STATUS/WORKING SCHEDULE:


  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Location: Greer, SC
  • Work Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • Schedule/Shift: Monday-Friday
