Position Summary

The Manager, Risk oversees the risk management, insurance, and surety programs of the organization. Responsibilities include managing global insurance renewal process for all lines of coverage, implementing tools to track and analyze exposure data and claims, and developing recommendations to efficiently and cost-effectively mitigate and control risks. This position will support the Director, Risk Management in all areas of responsibility including evaluating and implementing alternative risk financing structures.


About this position

  • Will supervise the work of 3 direct reports.
  • 5% International travel required (not likely to be more than 1 time per year).
  • 5-10% Domestic travel required.
  • This position is based in Mentor, OH and requires time in the office. The position offers some flexibility for a hybrid schedule for locally based candidates after 90 days.

Duties

  • Manages the following global commercial insurance renewal process: property; international casualty including foreign business automobile liability, and employers’ liability; cyber/privacy and network security; environmental; business travel accident; transit/cargo insurance. (25%)
  • Supervises casualty claims administration (GL/Products, Auto, WC) (20%)
  • Oversees the primary casualty (general liability, products liability, workers compensation and automobile liability), excess liability and professional liability renewal process. (15%)
  • Supervises and leads team of 3 to ensure that the objectives of the risk management team are efficiently and effectively executed. (10%)
  • Manages loss control activities such for property risks and works with internal and external resources to address loss control engineering recommendations. (10%)
  • Works with the team on contractual risk transfer including analysis of insurance requirements as part of Customer and vendor contract reviews, bid requests, and supplier/subcontractor insurance requirements and other risk and insurance administrative matters. (10%)
  • Oversees, supervises, and supports all merger and acquisition activity and advises both internal and external stakeholders on risk management issues relating to mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, and other unique risks. (5%)
  • Other (5%)

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of global property knowledge including loss control initiatives, multinational program structures, cyber liability
  • 3+ years working knowledge of domestic liability, executive liability insurance and surety
  • 3+ years experience with claims administration
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in a Risk Management, Commercial Insurance or Property/Casualty Insurance Broker role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • 1+ years of leadership or team management experience

Skills

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Skilled in corporate computing business programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Possess a high degree of initiative, a self-starter capable of working with minimal direct supervision. Proficient in completing assigned responsibilities and projects independently and in teams.
  • Must possess advanced analytical skills and ability to use business tools such as Excel at an intermediate level and a variety of reporting systems such as Origami and other database systems.
  • Strong listening and communication skills; oral, written and presentation.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized with a focus on quality and consistency, including proven strength in documentation and protocol/policy/procedure adherence and compliance.
  • Serve as a corporate representative, presenting a professional image for STERIS, with industry or vendor organizations.
  • Must be able to interact with and influence individuals at all levels of the organization and outside parties.
