Job Description
Summary:
Maxar has an immediate need for a Manager of the Remote Ground Stations (RGS) team at our Headquarters in Westminster Colorado. In this role you will be part of a talented group that supports the operations and maintenance of existing systems at both Maxar and customer sites. The team works closely across the enterprise to align with future architecture designs, and on the development of new ground-based satellite communications systems. In this role, you will play a key role in developing the future in Maxar ground station architecture and you will be responsible for engaging with key stake holders to determine future requirements to develop standards to scalability solutions aligned with Maxar’s operational objectives. The RGS team also provides critical, real-time support to Operations to ensure teams have access to all necessary resources for mission success.

What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):
  • Installation and maintenance of IP networking infrastructure and computer systems
  • Utilize and maintain monitoring tools. Perform ongoing assessments of the most effective means to gather operational metrics for insight into performance
  • Utilize project and problem management solutions to ensure initiatives are properly tracked and implemented
  • Create and document standards for Maxar ground stations
  • Engage with internal and external customers to ensure business objectives are met
  • Support the RGS team in their responsibilities, such as:
    • Installation and maintenance of IP networking infrastructure and computer systems
    • Installation and maintenance of a range of ground station technologies, including antennas and radios
    • Perform troubleshooting and execute repairs of reported issues with Maxar or customer ground stations
    • Communicate with internal and external customers regarding recommended actions for reported issues

  • Manage team of approximately 12 Ground Station and Satellite Operations Engineers
  • Perform troubleshooting and execute repairs of reported issues with Maxar or customer ground stations
  • Engage with stakeholders to determine future ground station requirements
  • Interface with key vendors and partners to deliver Maxar solutions
  • Ensure documentation is created, assembled, and organized for Maxar and customer ground stations
  • Collaborate with implementation teams to ensure that systems are implemented with the highest level of performance
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participation in staff recruitment, performance assessment, salary, training, career development and recognition/disciplinary actions.
  • Assess system security posture and recommend solutions to enhance overall security
  • Improve operational excellence by aligning future architecture with current operations
  • Determine the architecture to position Maxar ground stations for success
  • Engineer system and networking solutions for customer requirements

Minimum requirements for this position:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degree
  • Minimum of five years of management or leadership experience
  • Ability to delineate distractors versus issues
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in satellite ground station operations, or equivalent experience in aerospace operations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve from a holistic, systems approach
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically up to 15%
  • Ability to work with vendors and other stakeholders domestically and abroad
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be willing and able to obtain U.S. Government Secret security clearance
These skills would be amazing:
  • Radio-frequency engineering experience
  • Experience in an operational, hands-on environment
  • Familiarity and experience working with a Systems Engineering organization, including requirements analysis, concept definitions, architecture and concepts of operations
Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:
$104,000.00 - $173,000.00 annually.
Additionally, this position is incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and/or individual results achieved; the specific incentive plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions.
