Job Description
Position Overview
The Manager of Family Relations and Basketball Operations will assist with planning, front office administration, as well as family and player relations. You will work under the supervision of the team’s Senior Director of Basketball Operations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Family Relations
  • Assist in leading all aspects of the family room on game nights
  • Provide youth sports and activity information
  • Security systems setup
  • Coordinate food and beverage, ensure setup is correct and timely
  • Manage babysitters on game by game basis
  • Provide support to players, coaches, and their families, including checking in regularly
  • Provide information on schools, childcare, doctors, etc.
  • Share information and assist as needed with setting up housing, cleaning services, chefs
  • Assist players, coaches, and their families with daily off-court needs, including travel, car services, etc.
  • Create and send welcome gifts
  • Coordinate events and gatherings for coaches, players and their families including gifting
  • Plan special events throughout the season including holidays and children’s birthdays
  • Assist with the relocation of all players, staff and their families to Charlotte
  • Provide Transition Guide
  • Collaborate with CSR to provide and coordinate community efforts for Hornets players with the inclusion of Hornets Home Team
Basketball Operations
  • Embrace a culture of inclusion and diversity where guests and team members feel welcomed, valued, and heard
  • Manage and keep updated player and coaches contact list
  • Collaborate and assist with pre-draft workouts, training camp, free agency and summer league travel logistics and hotel arrangements
  • You are the point of contact for travel with travel agency
  • Build a network across NBA teams to share and learn best practices relating to family relations and operations
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate the game night experience for players and coaches’ families and guests
  • Assist in all basketball operations administrative efforts as well as be liaison for all non-basketball departments across HSE
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure all new hire onboarding and departure checklist items are completed for all coaches and players
  • Connect and update team members on the basketball operations side with weekly staff meetings, group communication, rules, etc.
  • Keep and submit annual documents to the NBA as requested and approved by GM & Assistant GM
  • Assist with draft night room set up and logistics
  • Provide support for NBA All-Star Weekend travel and tickets for Basketball Operations team members and assist with player travel and logistics
  • Provide oversight to office organization, supply ordering and inventory
Required Skills, Experience And Abilities
You will need to demonstrate the following competencies to be successful in this role:
  • May be required to travel to some basketball operations events, including but not limited to training camp, away games, summer league, or tournaments
  • Excellent communication skills including written and verbal; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely
  • Bachelor’s degree from a credited four year college or university or five years related work experience.
  • Dependability- consistently at work on time, follows instructions, responds to manager’s instructions
  • Presents self in professional manner and have ability to interact with all levels of organization and outside contacts.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs
  • Great teammate - have team-oriented experience and approach
  • Planning and organizing, can prioritize work activities; uses time efficiently
  • Interpersonal skills – ability to maintain confidentiality, listens to others, and willing to try new insights
  • Ability to work a regular work week plus evening and weekend hours required
  • Adaptability and flexibility- adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to handle frequent changes
  • Required to attend all home games
