Job Description

Position Overview

The mission of the Office of Data and Technology is to support schools and the district as a whole to use technology and data effectively to accelerate student achievement. The Office includes the following teams:

  • The Strategic Initiatives team oversees office strategy, finance, communications, staffing, and operations; manages a portfolio cross-functional workstreams; and supports the office, agency, and schools use data and technology effectively.
  • The Assessments team leads and supports schools in the administration of summative assessments and surveys and ensures test integrity is maintained during assessments.
  • The Information Technology team provides DCPS students and staff in every school with the infrastructure, systems, and support to use technology effectively to accelerate student achievement.
  • The Data team ensures stakeholders at all levels of the organization have access to accurate, timely, and relevant data, conducting analysis and research, and building school-based capacity to use data tools to inform planning and decision-making.

The Information Technology (IT) team leads the district’s efforts to ensure all DCPS students and staff, in every school, have the technology, data and systems, and technical support needed to be successful.

The Program Manager, Information Technology is a hands-on position responsible for managing various information technology projects and leading IT asset administration function at DCPS various DCPS locations.
The Program Manager, Information Technology will support a growing team focused on ensuring a sound, cutting edge information technology infrastructure aligned to the needs of the agency.

The Manager, Information Technology will report to the Director, IT Infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages risks effectively and takes necessary actions to mitigate risks as needed.
  • Monitors projects, prevents Scope creep, and ensures adherence to change management processes.
  • Leads IT program management including technical, schedule, cost, quality, and resource management.
  • Manages and maintains the pace of one or several concurrent project.
  • Drafts and sends clear and timely communications to stakeholders providing periodic updates on projects’ status.
  • Coordinates with functional departments to ensure all users receive supported devices.
  • Manages IT Asset administration functions in various DCPS locations including the central offices.
  • Oversees an expanding team of project managers and asset administrators, providing overall operational leadership and direction.
  • Analyzes, measures project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
  • Partners with the business owners, school leadership, and technology managers to align on decisions and courses of action to ensure projects run efficiently and on time.
  • Ensure that the business requirements are captured accurately before a solution is developed and/or implemented.
  • Manages and maintains in-lifecycle IT assets. Plans, monitors, and tracks hardware and software assets to ensure compliance with organizational asset management policies. Manages and supports the acquisition, deployment, utilization, tracking, security, and final disposition of IT assets.
  • Develops, directs, coordinates, and manages various IT projects from inception to completion.
  • Ensures all projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and budget.
  • Coordinates internal and vendor resources for the smooth execution of projects.

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing multiple projects.
  • Ability to track and analyze data strategically and purposefully.
  • Experience managing desktop and mobile device management platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree and four to six years of related work experience.
  • Ability to track and analyze data strategically and purposefully.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of IT assets administration and monitoring required.
  • Knowledge of network systems (LAN/WAN) infrastructure.
  • Previous exposure to or experience in the educational technology a plus.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in project/program management and business analysis.
