General Scope And Summary


Sage Therapeutics is searching for a creative, resourceful, integrative thinker with excellent project management, communication, and client service skills for an important role as Manager, Contracts Operations, who will be responsible for supporting operations and functional initiatives for the Contracts team within Sages Legal department. Reporting to the Associate Director, Contracts Excellence, this role will manage day-to-day operations activities related to contracts, including providing support, maintenance, and employee training related to our contracts management system, drafting and reviewing standard contracts and amendments under the guidance of other team members, and assisting with system integration projects.


The Manager, Contracts Operations will be expected to demonstrate strong attention to the needs of the business and a focus on providing a positive and efficient experience for Sage employees collaborating with the Contracts team. The Manager, Contracts Operations will also assist with other projects related to contract management and Legal team administration.


Roles And Responsibilities


  • Work with members of the Contracts team to prepare training materials and conduct new hire and ongoing education related to Sages contract review process and contract management system. Support internal stakeholders with contracts process related queries.
  • Assist with the drafting of contract renewals (i.e., standard amendments) and review other types of standard contracts under the supervision of other Contracts team members.
  • Assist with other operation activities and projects.
  • Review and approve statements of work (SOWs) and purchase orders (POs) in Oracle, in consultation with Contracts team members, as needed.
  • Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Contracts Excellence, perform maintenance on Sages contract management system and coordinate with Sages Digital and Enterprise Capabilities (DEC) team as well as third party vendors to resolve technical issues and implement enhancements, updates, and required integrations.
  • Perform contract lifecycle management, including guiding contracts through the review process (including facilitating approvals), generating relevant reports, and coordinating with Business Operations teams to ensure that their respective contract requests are finalized in the contracts system.
  • Maintain and seek to continuously improve team databases and SharePoint site.

Basic Qualifications


  • 4+ years of contracts experience.
  • Bachelors degree.

  • Experience managing multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Paralegal certificate.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the contract management lifecycle.
  • Experience with financial approval systems.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.
  • Prior contract management experience (Conga Contracts or a similar contract management system).
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and contract language.
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and DocuSign (or a similar electronic signature platform).

Benefits and Compensation The base salary hiring range for this position is $104,992 - $144,364.*
