Mainframe Developer - Entry LevelWhat does a successful Mainframe Developer do at Fiserv?
Fiserv is a world-class data and analytics organization delivering the next generation of powerful data insights and decisioning solutions to financial institutions, fintech, consumer/business credit bureaus, government agencies and merchants. As a successful Mainframe Developer, you will work in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirement gathering, application design, system development, testing and implementation.
What you will do:
- Maintenance and enhancements: Providing ongoing maintenance and support for existing COBOL applications. This includes analyzing and resolving production issues, implementing enhancements and modifications, and ensuring the overall stability and performance of the applications.
- Adherence to standards: Following coding standards, best practices, and industry guidelines to ensure high-quality code and maintainable applications. Adhering to security and compliance standards in application development.
- Testing and debugging: Conducting thorough testing of COBOL programs to ensure they function correctly and meet the specified requirements. Identifying and resolving any issues or bugs that arise during testing.
- Documentation: Documenting all development activities, including program specifications, coding changes, and testing results. Ensuring that code is well-documented and easy to understand for future maintenance and enhancement purposes.
- Troubleshooting and support: Assisting in troubleshooting and resolving issues reported by end-users or the support team. Providing technical support and guidance to resolve problems related to COBOL applications.
- Designing and coding: Developing COBOL programs based on specifications provided by business analysts. This involves writing efficient, scalable, and maintainable code.
- Collaboration: Collaborating with other members of the development team, such as database administrators and system analysts, to integrate COBOL applications with other systems and databases. Working closely with business analysts and end-users to gather requirements and provide technical guidance.
What you will need to have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong unit testing skills
- Application Production Support – ability to provide 24x7 support for up to a week at a time.
- Knowledge of the following: File Transmission (FTP/NDM) and batch processing
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or equivalent experience.
- 0-5 years of software development engineering experience.
- Working knowledge in a Linux operating environment – proficient with COBOL, MF COBOL, NET COBOL, VSAM, DB2 and working with Microsoft and Linux tools environment.
What would be great to have:
- Experience in technical design writing and documentation
- Experience in the finance or debit/credit cards domain
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in team design session
This role is not eligible to be performed in Colorado, California, New York or Washington.
