Job Description
Title: Kelver Library


Location: 585 S Main Street Byers, CO 80103


Reports to: Supervisor


FLSA Status: Non - Exempt, Full-time 40-hours per week


Schedule: Monday 8-5p, Tuesday 11-7p, Wednesday 8-5p, Thursday 8-5p, Friday 8-5p, and every third Saturday of the month 8-5p with that Monday off.


Pay Rate: $18.50 - $21.45


Purpose: Welcome and assist patrons in the use of the library by delivering outstanding, inclusive service while keeping current on internal communications and library offerings in order to connect patrons with the appropriate resources.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


80% PATRON ASSISTANCE AND MATERIALS HANDLING


General Patron Assistance


  • Listens to patron feedback and shares through appropriate channels.
  • Assists patrons with library account inquiries, including cash register transactions.
  • Assists patrons with basic reference questions.
  • Promotes and supports library resources, programs and events.
  • Connects patrons with other library staff as needed.
  • Sets expectations for library use, de-escalates and resolves patron concerns.
  • Greets all library visitors and provides proactive assistance.
  • Provides basic advisory services to patrons.
  • Straightens and cleans up the library to provide a welcoming experience.


Technology Assistance


  • Assists patrons with library technology offerings, such as Microsoft Office, e-books and online databases.
  • Basic use and understanding of Sierra.
  • Connects patrons with other library staff as needed for intermediate and advanced technology needs.
  • Troubleshoots library technology and equipment, such as copiers and printers.
  • Assists patrons with reservable spaces, including basic AV equipment support.
  • Assists patrons with basic technology and troubleshooting questions, including assistance with patron computers, tablets, phones and other devices.


Materials Handling


  • Processes and shelves library materials and patron holds.
  • Merchandizes library materials and maintains library displays.
  • Helps manage library materials collection.


20% LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT:


  • Keeps current on new library resources, trends, technology and offerings .
  • Takes initiative to consistently update skills to effectively assist patrons.
  • Promotes positive relationships with co-workers and collaborates with others to meet the needs of staff and patrons.
  • Provides ongoing and regular feedback and observations to supervisors.
  • Keeps up to date on internal communication and information to effectively assist patrons and co-workers.


Minimum Qualifications


Performs other related duties as assigned and requested.


  • Ability to demonstrate curiosity in the vast technological and online resources the library has to offer and comfortable learning side by side with patrons.
  • Two years customer service, library or education/teaching experience.
  • Ability to communicate new ideas, products and services in a positive and engaging manner.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for an environment of constant change.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification for First Aid, AED and CPR.
  • Basic technology skills, such as Microsoft Office, basic email help, navigate login pages, sending emails, attaching files, downloading/opening attachments, printing email, saving files, file sharing, word processing, internet and website navigation, etc.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working with children and teens.
  • Bachelor's degree.


Work Environment


  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
  • The essential duties for this position are performed in an indoor environment.
  • Moderate noise (computers, phones, printers and patron interactions).


Physical Activities


Physical activities required to perform essential duties include:


  • Ability to lift to 40 lbs.
  • Bending, grasping, stretching without limitations which includes reaching into bins for materials, moving bins and carts filled with materials, shelving and shifting materials at various height levels.
  • Must be able to move around 75-100% of the time.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, reach and stoop 50% of the time.
  • Ability to push and pull a cart weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Lifting above your waist, head etc. up to 25 lbs.
  • Use of hands, fingers, and grasping of books, DVD's are required, with repetitive motion.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Long periods of sitting, remaining stationary, or moving around.
  • Frequency or repetitive actions which includes typing, shelving materials, occasionally opening and closing media cases.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 25-50% of the time.
