Job Description

:


The Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) seeks a motivated individual with a background in library collections to work on a project to transfer research library materials to other institutions .

This position will work with internal staff to ensure accurate inventories of cu rrent library holdings and to determine acquisition status of collections. They will work with curatorial and archives staff to execute internal transfers of materials from the library to other departments. They will work with the archival department to inventory, document, and catalogue rare and other books transferred to the DMNS archives. They will also work to find other organizations interested in acquiring remaining library materials, and then work to safely transfer materials outside of the organization. This position will be responsible for accurate documentation of all transfers through paper and digital documentation, using systems such as EOS Library System and EMu Collections Management System.


This is a part-time, term position projected to last 6-12 months.


Essential duties:

  • Ensure 0% damage to objects and specimens during preparation and move
  • Work with Digital Archivist to document and catalogue rare books transferred to archives in collections management database
  • Ensure 100% human health and safety during preparation and move
  • Work with Registrar and other staff to determine acquisition status o f library materials to be dispositioned
  • Create accurate inventories, from digital records o r physical assets, of library materials that have been or will be relocated
  • Initiate correspondence with other research or public libraries, museums, etc. who may be interested in receiving library materials
  • Coordinate all physical requirements of material transfers, such as shipping or local delivery/pick-up logistics
  • Coordinate with internal staff on transferring needed materials from library to departments or offices
  • Pack and otherwise prepare library materials for transport or shipping
  • Accurately record dispositions of transferred materials in digital records such as spreadsheets and databases

Minimum qualifications/Requirements:

  • 1 years’ experience with library systems or databases required
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in libraries, museum studies, or related field
  • 1 years’ experience working with library collections

Ideal candidate will have:


  • Previous experience working with EOS Library System
  • Previous experience cataloguing library books and materials , including weeding and deaccessioning of collections
  • Previous experience working within museum collections or a museum-based archive or library
