Job Description

The mission of Dallas Theological Seminary as a professional, graduate-level school is to glorify God by equipping godly servant-leaders for the proclamation of His Word and the building up of the body of Christ worldwide.
The Library Circulation Assistant 1 is responsible for circulation of library materials, assisting patrons, and maintaining the reference, periodical, and bookstack areas.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Help supervisor prepare reserve shelf.
  • Dusting shelves and other light cleaning.
  • Shelve reference books, periodicals and regular stack books. File microforms.
  • Answer the phone; provide limited information regarding library materials, direct other reference questions to reference librarians.
  • Circulate library materials on computer system: a) charge, discharge, renew materials; b) distribute holds and verify books on hold shelf; c) create, renew and edit user records.
  • Assist in searching for missing books.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
  • Use cash register to collect fees and overdue fines.
  • Assist in the maintenance of library copiers.
  • Prepare books at the circulation desk for reshelving.
Job Qualifications
  • Able to type 30 wpm
  • Required to work Fall, Wintersession, and Spring semesters, and most of the summer
  • Experience with computers, copiers, printers, and typewriters
  • Must be able to communicate well with people
  • Excellent English skills
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and manage time
  • Must have strong attention to detail and be able to work with numerous interruptions at the front desk
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Must be able to work some Saturdays and evenings
Education and Experience:
Library experience (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, walk, crouch or squat, grasp, and pull and push a book or cart of books. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to sit at a desk and work at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
