The Learning Impact Manager will work as a member of the Conservation Learning department to create and foster an evaluation culture where staff regularly use evaluation as a tool to improve programs and use evaluative thinking every day. The LIM will work with the department leadership to plan and conduct internal evaluation projects for new and existing programs, including developing evaluation plans, leading and coordinating data collection and analysis, and report writing. The LIM will create and coordinate opportunities for evaluation capacity building within Conservation Learning department staff as well as with other departments throughout the facility. The LIM will also serve as a primary point of contact for external evaluators working with Conservation Learning department programs. Finally, the LIM will work with department leadership to evaluate progress toward the achievement of the Conservation Learning strategic framework.
- Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with staff and stakeholders within and outside of the Aquarium.
- Keep familiar with current research, technology and procedural trends in evaluation for informal/nonformal learning environments.
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional and personal growth by initiating dialogue with colleagues, engaging in self-directed learning and focusing on professional development.
- Contribute to the professional development of the field by sharing Aquarium activities at local, regional, and national meetings as requested by the AVP.
- Work with AVP to identify and coordinate opportunities to build evaluation capacity within the department and Aquarium staff with an emphasis on evaluative thinking skills.
- Coordinate and facilitate the activities of external evaluators working on Conservation Learning projects.
- Design, coordinate, and implement internal evaluation projects to address the effectiveness of new and existing exhibits, programming, and initiatives in pursuit of the Aquarium's stated mission and outcomes. Work will include establishing evaluation needs, creating evaluation plans, constructing logic models, developing instruments, and both collecting and interpreting data.
- In collaboration with the AVP, develop new and modify existing metrics and measures to demonstrate the mission success of the Aquarium and its programs.
- Consult with Conservation Learning and other Aquarium staff on evaluation strategies and projects.
- Synthesize the products of evaluation and communicate results, recommendations, and trends to department management, project stakeholders and staff.
- Oversee students, volunteers, and/or interns working with the Aquarium in evaluation or social science research capacities.
- Contribute through professional conduct to a working environment that is inclusive, innovative, and collaborative.
- 3-5 years' experience designing, coordinating and implementing social science research and evaluation projects, preferably within an educational or informal learning setting.
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods and analytical skills
- Bachelor's degree is required, a master's degree is preferred
- 3-5 years developing and delivering informal science programming (preferably in an AZA-accredited facility)
- Strong communication skills, including writing, speaking, active listening and presenting content to various audiences
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, as well as cross-organizationally
- Excellent project management skills, including attention to detail, organization and ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Comfortable with change, innovation and creative approaches to evaluation
