Lead Zoo Keeper/Manager

HL’s Menagerie, LLC is currently seeking knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate individuals for exotic birds, reptiles, primates, and exotic animals. This position is for Full Time Position as Zookeeper Manager.

Primary responsibility will be to care for and maintain animals, exhibits, grounds, and facilities; supervise staff, perform daily keeper activities like feeding animals, behavioral observance, record keeping, cleaning enclosures, etc.

You will be working in proximity with birds, exotic animals, reptiles, kangaroos, primates, etc. Looking for long term committed individual who is seeking a career in caring for animals.

Responsibilities:

· Supervise the overall daily operation of all animal-related installations, including the supervision of the activities of the keeper staff, part-time workers and volunteers.

· Responsible for supervising care and maintenance of the animals and records. Preparing and submitting reports and animal censuses.

· Helps train and supervise Animal keeper positions in day-to-day activities. Assists in evaluation of animal keepers.

· Sets policies and procedures on shifting. Trains other staff, and shifts animals in adjacent stall, pens, or dens for feeding or cleaning purposes.

· Communicate questions or concerns regarding medical/health issues of animals to Owner. Assist with treatment as directed.

· Daily care and feeding of animals.

· Observes animals for unusual behaviors or appearance, signs of illness or injury, aggression, breeding, births, egg laying, hatching, deaths, and eating habits. Maintains daily records on this information and reports problems to Owner.

· Ensures the animal care and welfare and keep the safety record.

· Expert in Animal Breeding especially in Primates, Exotic Birds, and Exotic Reptiles.

· Review for accuracy and detail of the day's activities and ensuring that staff complete all required records. Completing department record-keeping by maintaining and submitting daily keeper reports, individual care charts, census forms, enrichment calendars, training logs to ensure consistent, and professional communications regarding all aspects of the animals maintenance. Uses this information to compile reports as needed.

· Report daily activities on the zoo to the Owner on a daily basis.

· Knowledge on animal husbandry and ensures that all animal husbandry and health duties are performed in the safest manner.

· Environmental enrichment.

· Ability to exercise sound judgment to evaluate each animal’s health, diet, behavior, and any emergency situations that arise

· Understand the importance of the condition of the animals, enclosures, and grounds.

· Ability to self-manage their time and work load without being micromanaged

· Able to work in all weather conditions and environments.

· Purchasing and picking up food for animals from the stores.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday
• On call
• Weekend availability
• 8 hour shift
• Holidays

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Fort Lauderdale, FL 33330: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

• Zookeeper: 2 years (Required)
• Animal caretaker: 2 years (Required)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Required)
