Valiant Solutions is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer with Linux experience to join our rapidly growing and innovative cybersecurity team! Due to federal requirements, all candidates must be U.S. Citizens with the ability to pass Federal background and credit checks.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5+ Years experience systems administration or engineering experience.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, or related degree or an additional three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience with security and operations, and maintenance of Linux-based systems
  • Experience supporting (configuring/installing/updating) applications on Linux-based servers.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Experience working with Splunk, syslog, syslog-ng or systems designed to collect and centralize logs.
  • Experience as an engineering team lead (represent the work of the team to client).
  • Experience working with Service Test Tools and task-tracking tools
  • Experience working with LogStash or other cyber security tools in a Linux environment

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain an accurate resource inventory for each system/tool/service and ensure all tools and services are configured in accordance with the Department and Federal system security configuration guidance.
  • Offer standby, on-call technical support during non-core operational support hours to address service-impacting issues.
  • Act as team lead in requirements decomposition, feasibility analysis, technical and product evaluations, and identification of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS)/Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) alternatives.
  • Collaborate with the Security Operations Center (SOC) teams for process optimization, tool tuning, tool integration, information sharing, playbook development, and incident response.
  • Provide technical support to SOC for incident response and forensic investigations.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of the client’s cybersecurity tools and services, ensuring operational availability, and performance, conducting health checks, managing software upgrades, patching testing, and implementation, optimization, and administration.
  • Follow client internal change management processes to ensure changes are properly planned and documented.
  • Support system access controls, including Account Management, Access Enforcement, Information Flow Enforcement, Least Privilege, and workflow for all user account requests and account recertifications.
  • Monitor tool health and performance to identify issues, bugs, or potential improvements. All identified issues are logged in the Service Desk Tool (SDT) and must be tracked and reported to closure.
  • Develop, review, and update existing operational documentation (SOPs, Job Aids, application checklists, playbooks, etc).
  • Implement automated near real-time monitoring of all tools to ensure proper operation and collection of pertinent data.
