About the Position


Lead Underwriter – Sustainable Food Producers Program – Leverage your P&C skills and experience underwriting businesses operating in controlled environments (Food Processors or Manufacturers)

The Lead GrowPro underwriter is such a unique and meaningful role - it really takes the right person who is excited about helping business owners and their insurance agents & brokers craft the best insurance program for the future of food production. Passionate about being able to deliver the best product that is tailored fit, to meet the needs of sustainable food producers focused on high-value Controlled Environment Agriculture.

This is a frontline and hands-on role that leverages your property and casualty underwriting skills and business acumen. You will have major part in setting the underwriting portfolio strategy, along with the distribution strategy for the GrowPro Program. Your focus will be to ensure that we are selecting reputable, good underwriting fit and profitable growers. Your entrepreneurial mindset, intelligent use of forms, ownership and solution orientation will enable you to overcome challenges and continue to build on the very proud tradition of the GrowPro Program. Reflecting the important business contribution this position makes it reports directly to our GrowPro Program Manager and work closely with the SVP of Specialty Programs.



What You'll Do

  • Through distribution strategy and product form, help expand the greenhouse and nursery market appetite and share of the GrowPro Program.
  • Utilize product line subject matter expertise to underwrite greenhouse and nursery accounts by selecting the right risks and negotiating rates, terms and conditions for new business.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align the program strategy with the overall business and underwriting plan of the company. This includes developing and executing the Go to Market plan to ensure a strong presence in key markets and segments.
  • Manage key broker, producer, insurance industry and client relationships.
  • Measure and optimize portfolio profitability and growth by reviewing and analyzing underwriting data and monitoring industry best practices to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and application to business strategy.
  • Focus on underwriting and growing the market share of the NIP Groups GrowPro Program.
  • The Lead GrowPro Underwriter handles the underwriting for the GrowPro Program and reports directly to GrowPro Program Manager.


What We're Looking For

  • Proven track record of driving growth and underwriting profit.
  • Development of the process, methodology, campaigns used to build a successful program.
  • Ability to drive cross functional alignment and coordination with sales, operations, and marketing teams.
  • Minimum of 7 years of P&C underwriting experience in the manufacturing and/or food processing industries.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator.
  • Responsible for creating and iterating the underwriting portfolio strategy.
  • Underwriting/Insurance designations preferred.
  • Expert level relationship management and broker distribution skills.
  • Excellent understanding of commercial programs insurance markets, coverage, including key competitors, distribution channels, market trends and dynamics.
  • Experience underwriting both on admitted and non-admitted paper.
  • Experience in a mid-size business unit and/or company going through rapid change or growth.
