Job Description


Job Summary:


The Underwriting Senior Consultant II is responsible for the evaluation of quotes and policies from an underwriting perspective and makes decisions for risk acceptability, pricing, terms and conditions for new business and renewals. In addition, this role has the Authority to approve or decline risks based on established guidelines and within individual authority level.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Make decisions on risk acceptability and/or pricing as outlined by the underwriter’s level of authority
  • Works with Regional Sales Managers and other Commercial Product Managers and Analysts to accomplish growth and profit objectives
  • Performs occasional involvement in Claim coverage disputes or legal matters relating to policy decisions
  • Performs risk reviews and upfront underwriting reviews to determine risk acceptability
  • Identifies process deficiencies and makes recommendations to appropriate internal partners
  • Identifies tactical opportunities for growth by analyzing current procedures and guidelines and offer input into product decisions and automation enhancements
  • Generates ideas and recommends changes for all Commercial agents that will enhance our current book of business
  • Serves as point of contact for all exceptions (agents, sups, TSM, Pricing, Marketing, Etc. )
  • Documents and communicates underwriting guidelines, philosophies, and decisions with Pricing, Marketing, Compliance, etc.
  • Maintains significant involvement with underwriting and processing of new business and renewals,
  • Mentors and assists with the training of new underwriters and underwriting assistants
  • Accountable for education and training of agents on systems, products and rating

Preferred Qualifications:


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 3 or more years of experience, preferably with Products

Functional Skills


  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in training large or small groups and/or public speaking
  • Must perform well in high-energy, dynamic and team-oriented environments
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • Willingness to pursue Insurance professional designations such as IIC, CPCU, AU and/or ARM

The base range offered for the role is: $57,500.00 - $75,000.00 and may vary based on internal equity, and job-related skills, knowledge and experience; among other factors.
