This position is located in the Bureau of Drug Control.

Under limited supervision, will coordinate all aspects of DHEC Bureau of Drug Control Law Enforcement training and certifications. Assists with law enforcement activities as needed. Serves as the primary liaison between DHEC Law Enforcement and SC Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA) and between DHEC Law Enforcement and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Specific duties include:
Manage and coordinate training for DHEC Bureau of Drug Control Law Enforcement Personnel. Secure sites, schedule and implement required in-service training for the three (3) year recertification for DHEC law enforcement personnel. Conducts initial training with new hires to prepare for SCCJA attendance, which includes logistics and scheduling of the 4-week Pre-Academy and 8-week BLE (Basic Law Enforcement) Training. Serve as agency primary contact for SCCJA, Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC), and SLED. Maintain, obtain, and delete Law Enforcement (LE) commissioning documents as needed. Serve as the Terminal Access Coordinator for Drug Control. Responsible for terminal security and background access and for generating criminal histories upon request of our officers.

Participates in the hiring process for law enforcement personnel. Assists all DHEC Bureau of Drug Control Law Enforcement with search warrants, arrest warrants, and prisoner transports when needed, as well as provide statistical report for the Bureau Director. Review cases, search warrants, and arrest warrants on an as needed basis. Researches case law and provide education to staff through individual training and training classes. Maintain Drug Control's Records Management System (RMS) by entering court dispositions, generating statistical data related to investigations, etc. Also serves as the Bureau Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) coordinator and Media relations liaison related to criminal investigations. Perform other duties as needed.

A high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required law enforcement experience.


Must be a class one (1) certified Law Enforcement Officer by the SC Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA). Must have Basic Instructor Certification and Training Officer Certification accredited by SCCJA.

Excellent communication, reporting, writing skills, and the ability to establish strong positive working relationships. Possess and maintain a valid SC driver's license with a good driving record. Certification by the Law Enforcement Training Council in accordance with Section 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976.

Must be a United States citizen, at least 21 years of age, and able to perform all of the essential job functions of the law enforcement area for which you are applying. Once hired, must be able to obtain a commission issued by SLED. Possess ability to complete the SC Criminal Justice Academy 12-week training course required for certification. The SCCJA requires the LE candidate to be housed on the campus Monday - Friday. Qualified applicants will receive a supplemental Law Enforcement application, which must be completed and returned within 10 working days.
