Job Description

Let’s get straight to the point: Where you work matters. That’s where we come in. Maven Landscape Services is Texas’ premier landscape management company. Our team is a supportive group of hard-working, no-nonsense, straight-shooting men and women. Each day, we endeavour to enrich others’ lives through beautiful landscapes. Why? Because we believe life is better outside. It’s our passion. Join a workplace where you can learn, grow, and prove your worth — each and every day.

We are currently looking for a creative mind to join our team as an Landscape Designer. The work of the Landscape Designer is to make places look beautiful by planning, designing and managing open spaces including both natural and built environments. The Landscape Designer works to provide innovative and aesthetically pleasing environments for people to enjoy, while ensuring that changes to the natural environment are appropriate, sensitive and sustainable. The Landscape Designer needs to have the ability to assess a site's potential to meet the client's specifications as well.

The ideal candidate will not only need to be highly creative, but also be green thumb that has a knack for keeping records and communicating well with others. Please keep in mind that the tasks you will be responsible for as a Landscape Designer will depend upon your level of expertise and position in a firm. A Landscape Designer, though responsible for many of the same aspects of a project that a Landscape Architect is, will usually work on smaller projects.

What you'd be responsible for…

  • Reviewing plans, proposed changes, and any other necessary documents.
  • Making public presentations when necessary to discuss the project, complete with charts, sketches, and so forth.
  • Planning the finished product, tying in new features with current ones, by sketching it to scale. These drawings need to be very detailed, down to the window and door placement on the buildings.
  • Performing site analyses that include the assessment of current plants, soil conditions, lighting, the view, and architecture style of the property for the purpose of bidding, scheduling and ordering goods for the job.
  • Using creativity and the beauty of nature to create a harmonious, aesthetically pleasing and functional area. Areas may include personal lawns, parks, walkways, and more.
  • Setting meetings with prospective clients to determine scope of services desired.
  • Researching topics such as plants and their ability to survive in an area, guidelines and codes.
  • Overseeing progression of the project to ensure that it is going as planned.
  • Communicating both with clients and workers (contractors, supervisors, etc.) on the landscaping team.
  • Keeping records, including everything from correspondence to reports.

What experience we're looking for…

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in landscape design or landscape architecture is required, though you do not necessarily have to be licensed to work as a landscape designer. While 49 states require landscape architects to obtain licenses, landscape designers may be able to work without a license depending upon the location and the nature of the job.

  • A basic knowledge of how much the materials and labor will cost.
  • Knowledge of how ecological conditions can affect a proposed design.
  • Surveying experience and equipment knowledge.
  • Inspection knowledge and experience.

What skills we're looking for…

  • An understanding of the laws and codes you will have to abide by in specific areas.
  • Raw talent for sketching and drawing. Though you will use a computer program for some plans, you should still be able to create realistic drawings by hand.
