Job Description
Overview:
M Health Fairview is seeking a Spoken Language Healthcare Interpreter for Karen! This is an outstanding full time opportunity with guaranteed hours to work with a great company with a consistent schedule!

Spoken Language Healthcare Interpreter I provide language access for all collaborators involved in the healthcare encounter by providing meaningful language services and supporting effective and equitable communication via in-person or virtual platforms with demonstrated fluency.
Responsibilities/:
Interpret accurately and completely, conveying the content and spirit of the original message, taking into consideration the cultural context that is responsive to the demands of the situation (in-person and/or virtual).
  • Ability to use both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills when appropriate
  • Manage set-up and flow of communication to promote communicative autonomy
  • Adapt to fast pace technology changes within the working environment
  • Diffuses conflict between parties by remaining calm and impartial.
  • Has proven understanding of basic healthcare terminology and physical anatomy
  • Facilitate communication across cultural differences and alerts all parties to significant cultural or linguistic disparities that may significantly impact outcomes
  • Completes Educational Annual requirements – Minimum of 8 Continuing Education Units
  • Able to interpret complex concepts into preferred spoken language
  • Communicate with scheduling office & Leadership Team.
  • Demonstrates transparent & ethical conduct
  • Manage daily workflow in Epic, Microsoft Outlook, and Teams
  • Use AIDET and explain the interpreter scope of practice
  • Maintain confidentiality and understands the interpreter scope of practice
  • Adheres to NCIHC Code of Ethics & Standards of Practice.

Adaptability:
  • Demonstrate ability to provide language services with a variety of clinical populations.
  • Provide Services in multiple modalities: In-Person and/or Virtual
  • Travel to and provides interpreting services in multiple locations and settings
  • Manage and communicates unanticipated changes throughout the day.
  • Demonstrate personal flexibility to meet staffing and patient communication needs.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications to Fulfill Job Responsibilities:

Required

Education
  • Minimum of 40 hours of formal training or college level courses in healthcare interpreting

Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare interpreting
License/Certification/Registration
  • Minnesota Department of Health’s Spoken language interpreter roster

Preferred

Education
  • Associate degree or higher in interpreting or related fields.
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare interpreting
