ABOUT THE JOB

The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Junior Systems Engineer in the Information Technology Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY.

The Information Technology (IT) department provides technology-based services and support for more than 550 National staff at our New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, the Dakotas, Puerto Rico and Durham offices, including affiliates and staff based in remote locations. ACLU IT support staff ensures that business critical services are available to all staff.

Reporting to the Director of Network and Systems Operations, the Junior Systems Engineer will be responsible for providing escalation support for the helpdesk and troubleshoot and administer Active Directory, Windows and Linux servers, troubleshoot Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web services, Cisco infrastructure, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to support and troubleshoot remote user issues
  • Work with third-party vendors and assist with hardware order
  • Create and manage user accounts and access rights requests and resolve related issues
  • Experience with adding and removing records within Cloudflare
  • Respond to inquiries from National and affiliate staff
  • Provide audio-visual support for conferences and assist with online meetings
  • Experience with troubleshooting and administering Active Directory, Azure AD, Group Policies, and policies within Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience with creating servers and first response troubleshooting for servers in Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services
  • Provide escalation support to the Help Desk and assist users with computer application problems and questions including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Mobile and Document Management Services
  • Experience with working on Windows Server 2016 and 2019
  • Configure desktop computers, laptops, software, printers, mobile devices and troubleshooting issue that may occur
  • Able to provide initial response troubleshooting for LAN/WAN, switches, firewalls and other network supporting devices
  • Provide escalation support to the Help Desk for ACLU document management systems, email archiving systems, VoIP support and requests, and mobile device accessibility

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and demonstrate grace under pressure
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows
  • Strong communications, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills; ability to effectively assist users, resolve issues and escalate as necessary.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Mobile technology
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • Experience troubleshooting desktop and mobile device issues

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree in Information Technology or a related field; and demonstrated work experience in a related field
  • Familiarity with at least one type of Helpdesk ticketing software, preferred

COMPENSATION

The ACLU values equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with the ACLU’s compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for this role. The annual salary for this position is $113,512 (Level G), reflective of a position based in New York, NY, where our National offices are headquartered. This salary will be subject to a locality adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
