Junior Full Stack Developer

EcoMap Technologies is a Baltimore-based tech company that creates tools to power ecosystems, such as entrepreneurial communities, industries, and institutional networks. We aggregate data about the different organizations, resources, opportunities, activity, and relationships within a given ecosystem into a continually-updated platform or chatbot, which our customers use to understand their ecosystems and engage their stakeholders.

We're looking for a Junior Full Stack Developer to join our team, working across multiple internal & external products built on diverse frameworks. We're seeking a candidate who is a quick learner, capable of understanding multiple complex products and developing modular features. Experience with either front-end web development, backend database architecture, or low/no-code tools is desired. In our 30-person team, you'll be working alongside 5 Platform & Data Engineers (+ 3 to be hired) and adjacent to our 3 person Product Design team & 6 person Data Paradigm & Fidelity team.

Note: this is a hybrid role, with the entire team in our Baltimore Headquarters Mon/Wed, and your-choice for T/Th/Fr.

As a Junior Full Stack Developer, you'll be responsible for supporting the development of front-end web architecture, backend database architecture, and developing web-app features from provided designs. You'll work across multiple products, ranging from our platform product (the EcoMap), our chatbot product (the EcoBot), and our internal data management system. Candidates with interest or experience in Data Science, Web scraping, NLP, or Machine Learning may also work alongside our Data Engineering team on our algorithmic data curation & management systems.

EcoMap is a high-growth startup with a highly complex product that uses multiple languages & frameworks. As a Junior Developer, you will be expected to quickly learn new frameworks, understand existing products, and work across multiple products and projects. This role is best suited for fast-learners who are both collaborative and capable of autonomous work under the fast-paced & uncertain conditions inherent at a startup. We heavily encourage the use of assistive development tools such as Copilot.

Responsibilities:

• Developing backend databases and managing server architecture
• Developing internal APIs & integrating with external ones
• Collaborating with other engineers to determine the best build approach of new features
• Creating various integrations between products & low-code tools
• Consulting on the front-end and back-end architecture of new product features
• Developing front-end web architecture using Javascript frameworks (React, Cue)
• Ensuring web & mobile responsiveness of applications

Requirements

Technical Skills & Qualifications:

• Use of automative & assistive development tools such as Copilot
• Ability to learn new frameworks, languages, and products rapidly
• Desire to work collaboratively with other engineers and team members
• Familiarity with code versioning tools such as Git
• A systems-minded orientation and ability to understand existing products and architecture
• 1-2 years of experience as a Full Stack Developer OR portfolio of relevant independently developed products

Bonus Skills:

• Familiarity with server-side languages such as Python
• Familiarity with front-end languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Familiarity with LLMs (such as GPT, Claude, or Bard) and LLM integrations
• Good problem-solving skills & attention to detail
• Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS/GCP
• Familiarity with low-code tools such as WeWeb, Retool, Bubble, or Webflow
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with database technology such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB
