The City of Seattle's Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) is seeking motivated and reliable team players to fill two Janitor positions within the Logistics and Emergency Management (LEM) Division.
Janitors play an important role on a small team who work together to keep City Hall and the surrounding areas clean and safe for employees and the public. Daily duties involve indoor and outdoor cleaning of high use public areas with exposure to hazardous substances and interaction with homeless individuals.
This recruitment is for two positions, one night shift and one day shift. Night shift work hours are 4:00 pm - 12:30 am and day shift work hours are 6:00 am - 2:30pm, both are Monday-Friday.

The LEM division provides strategic planning, oversight and logistical support in response to emergencies impacting the City of Seattle. - Performs basic maintenance on equipment.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and wastes; replenishes restroom supplies; washes walls and windows, dusts furniture, polishes metal work.
- Assists in moving furniture and other objects on occasional basis.
- Cleans, waxes and polishes floors. Operates mechanical cleaners, polishers or other specialized floor care equipment.
- Cleans restrooms, facilities, and offices in assigned buildings and building areas.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Reports evidence of damage and vandalism.
- Cleans lighting fixtures, windows, windowsills, screens, tops of windows, doors frames, and other high areas.
- Sweeps outside areas and sidewalks and removes trash.
- Collects and recycles paper to reduce disposal costs; monitors volume, checks for contaminants and initiates removal or regrading.
Work Requirements:
- Requires routine exposure to and handling of toxic/hazardous substances, including blood, bodily fluids, needles, etc.
- Required to work on ladders/scaffolding above ground level
- Required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or less
- Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time
- Required to work outdoors in all types of weather
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a diverse team
- Janitorial experience in a public facility
- Prior floor care experience
- At least one year of experience working as a janitor
- The full salary range for this position is $23.14 - $24.32 per hour.
