Job Description

This position is responsible for providing first-line support to end-users across the organization, preparing hardware for deployment, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and maintaining IT systems and equipment. The technician will work closely with the IT team to ensure the smooth operation of all IT infrastructure and services.

Expected hiring range: $31.69 - $33.81

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate in the development and updating of IT resources, such as checklists, help-sheets, manuals, FAQs, training materials, and departmental procedures, to support both IT staff and end-users.
  • Serve as an occasional backup to front desk for breaks and meal periods for the Fridley Civic Campus, which includes greeting visitors, answering the City's main phone line, and providing general information.
  • Perform initial setup and deployment of PC hardware and install software applications.
  • Provide initial technical support and troubleshooting to end-users who encounter IT issues or problems.
  • Configure and maintain printers, copiers, and other peripherals.
  • Assist with creation and maintenance of user accounts and groups.
  • Track computer equipment and peripheral inventory and manage the schedule for PC replacement.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, best practices, and technologies through professional development and training opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
  • Provide remote support to off-site staff.
  • Contribute to new employee IT onboarding and provide training on city technology, software, and best practices.
  • Perform regular maintenance and updates to software and hardware systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Communicate regularly, professionally, and effectively with end-users and vendors to ensure a high level of support.
  • Assist IT staff with infrastructure maintenance and projects as needed.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to end-users to ensure they are able to effectively use technology, software, and IT systems.
  • Provide basic support to systems primarily maintained by other IT staff, as needed.
  • Utilize a helpdesk system to log and prioritize support requests.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1 year of recent experience troubleshooting and setting up commonly used IT equipment, including providing office support for Microsoft Windows 10 or newer and Microsoft Office 365 applications; OR
  • Associates/Technical Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related technical field; AND
  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
  • Equivalent combination of education/training/experience.
  • Ability to obtain CJIS certification within six months of hire.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with government data practices and records retention requirements and processes.
  • Experience with PCI, FBI/CJIS, and BCA Security compliance.
  • Experience with programming or scripting
  • Experience with the following technologies: Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server OS, Office 365 administration, Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, PDQ Deploy, and Microsoft Intune.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of IT security principles and policies.
  • Basic understanding of laptops, tablets, smart phones, printers, projectors, smart boards, scanners, and digital equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10 or newer and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to use strong problem-solving skills to analyze and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships other employees, other agencies, contractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to adapt and learn new technologies and tools quickly.
  • Knowledge of basic networking, remote desktop, and VPN technologies.
  • Ability to proactively communicate in a clear and concise manner all pertinent information necessary for continued improvement of IT service delivery to the organization and other services supported by third parties with IT involvement.
  • Ability to use excellent communication and customer service skills to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, have strong positive public relations skills, and to present technical information to a variety of audiences.
