Job Description

The University of Utah has an opportunity for a Cyber Security Event Analyst to help support our Information Security and Compliance goals. The analyst will follow detailed operational process and procedures to appropriately analyze, escalate critical information security events and incidents.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate and analyze security incidents to identify threats and vulnerabilities
  • Be the point of escalation for Tier 1 SOC Analysts
  • Provide support for security infrastructure, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and SIEM solutions
  • Assist in hiring and training Tier 1 SOC Analysts
  • Collaborate with other teams to enhance overall security posture
  • Contribute to security process improvements and documentation
  • Monitor security events and alerts from various sources
  • Respond to security incidents in a timely and effective manner
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest security threats, trends, and technologies
  • Participate in incident response and security investigations as part of a team

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences
  • At least 2 years of experience in security operations or a related field
  • Advanced understanding of adversary motivations: cybercrime, cyber hacktivism, cyberwar, cyber espionage, and the difference between cyber propaganda and cyber terrorism
  • Strong understanding of networking, operating systems, and security technologies
  • Knowledge of SIEM solutions and other security tools
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Willingness for continued professional development
  • Experience with security incident investigation and response
