The IT Service Continuity Engineer will support Costco with expertise, skills, and acumen acquired from numerous years of experience implementing best practices and maturing organizations in BC/DR/Resiliency. The Engineer will assist in defining evaluation criteria for determining the current availability constraints on systems that support capabilities; work with technical and business teams to decompose business level requirements into system and solution level requirements; assist architecture with selecting the appropriate technological solutions to meet the business requirements; implement the solution(s) required to fulfill the system and solution level requirements; and perform test and validation activities to prove BCDR effectiveness and readiness.

ROLE

Guides teams on BC/DR requirements, this includes BC/DR plans and tests, as defined in the Service Continuity Standard.

Contributes to the formulation and maintenance of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan to ensure timely and effective restoration of IT services and business resumption in the event of a disaster.

Builds strong relationships with both business and technology customers including leaders and other key stakeholders to ensure collaboration for planning and incident response activities are in place.

Facilitates BC/DR testing for business and technical customers. Testing would include validation, escalation, and reporting results.

Provides input on the selection of an Enterprise BCDR solution(s) which meets the cost and schedule constraints and satisfies recoverability, availability and business continuity targets.

Develops efficient and scalable processes, templates and program metrics as required.

Coordinates communication with internal, customer, and vendor resources and facilitates escalations of issues as appropriate.

Recommends and encourages technical teams to automate solutions that will improve availability and business resiliency.

Supports key projects/initiatives as a BC/DR expert to mitigate risk for the business.

Identifies and analyzes the gaps in current BC/DR plans and provides recommendations to close gaps.

Provides input on the development of implementation, user guides, and training materials.

Develops and executes runbooks and functional validation workbooks for performing failover, and recovery.

Maintains knowledge and understanding of current and emerging technologies, equipment and systems.

Reviews and provides input to policies, standards, and standard operating procedures.

Performs training for IT teams and staff as required to mature BC/DR program.

Builds positive rapport with Internal Audit and ability to respond promptly on requests.

Collaborates with ITSM teams to ensure BC/DR plans are accessible and available at the time of a catastrophic event.

REQUIRED

7+ years’ experience in DR or Business Continuity related roles.

Expertise in conducting Business Impact Analysis, creating Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Plans, conducting Tabletop Exercises, and developing failover solutions.

Proficient in Datacenter and Cloud technologies.

Proficient in supporting an Enterprise strategy for recoverability and continuity of business operations.

Familiarity with security, compliance and regulatory requirements.

Active Certification from DRII or BCI or similar or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of employment.

Strong analytical skills that support sound recommendations and influence decision making to achieve objectives.

Excellent oral, written, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization (e.g. technical teams, leadership and external vendors).

Solid time management skills with the ability to plan, organize and implement multiple initiatives and deadline-driven workloads while consistently providing outstanding customer service.

Detail-oriented, proactive self-starter demonstrating a positive and willing attitude.

Recommended

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field or equivalent experience.

Interest in learning new skills and keeping pace with changing technologies.

Experience with Agile frameworks and/or cross-functional project management best practices.

Welcomes and seeks feedback and is able to provide feedback in a respectful manner.

Proven experience as a change agent inspiring new ideas and technical solutions that improve recovery times.

Pay Ranges:

Level 2 - $145,000 - $175,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level 3 - $165,000 - $195,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
